Gold Standard and Verra Launch Joint Tool for Article 6.2 Carbon Credit Reporting

Gold Standard and Verra Launch Joint Tool for Article 6.2 Carbon Credit Reporting

Gold Standard and Verra have launched a joint tool to help host countries report corresponding adjustments for carbon credits authorised under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement. The tool consolidates records of corresponding adjustments for all authorised credits issued by either standards body into a single comprehensive record, automatically populating the summary table countries are required to submit alongside their 2026 Biennial Transparency Reports.

Corresponding adjustments are the accounting mechanism Article 6.2 requires to prevent double counting of emissions reductions, ensuring that when a country authorises a carbon credit for use by another country or entity, such as an airline complying with CORSIA, the underlying emissions reduction is recorded as belonging to the buyer rather than being counted by both the host country where the reduction occurred and the credit's eventual user. Before this tool, host countries working with credits issued under both Gold Standard and Verra's separate certification systems would have needed to reconcile two distinct sets of records independently to compile the unified reporting their Biennial Transparency Report submissions require.

Verra chief executive Mandy Rambharos said getting corresponding adjustments right is essential to the integrity of Article 6.2 and to the trust host countries and buyers place in these credits, framing the joint tool as offering a single, consistent resource rather than leaving countries to reconcile two separate systems independently. Gold Standard chief executive Margaret Kim said the collaboration removes practical complexity around Article 6.2 reporting, helping host countries access carbon market opportunities with greater confidence while supporting a more efficient and consistent market overall.

The tool is intended to reduce the risk of reporting errors and promote consistent treatment of these units across different market contexts, addressing a technical compliance burden that could otherwise create inconsistencies between how different countries report the same underlying category of authorised carbon credits.
