Forests Canada, a national reforestation charity, has completed its 2026 planting season having supported the planting of nearly 3.7 million trees across the country, aimed at strengthening forest resilience amid increasing wildfires, biodiversity loss and extreme weather events. Since launching its tree planting programme in 2004, the organisation has completed more than 10,852 restoration projects with thousands of landowners and supported the planting of over 54 million trees in total.
Forests Canada CEO Jess Kaknevicius said "at a time when our forests seem to need us most, we have delivered an incredibly successful planting season – but we know our work has only just begun," adding the organisation is proudest of "the forest recovery system we have built and continually improve year over year," spanning "every stage from seed collection and seedling production to planting, stewardship, and long-term forest resilience."

The release cites research conducted by Abacus Data on behalf of Forests Canada finding 87 percent of Canadians believe forests are a vital part of national identity. Val Deziel, Forests Canada's Director of Restoration Ecology and Research, attributed that broad public support to forests holding different value for different people, including air, water and soil quality, economic and agricultural productivity, recreational space and wildlife habitat.

Forests Canada Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Jarrett noted the scale of this year's and cumulative planting "requires the long-term investment and support of countless individuals and organizations, including donors, corporate partners, First Nations communities, and all levels of government." The organisation operates through a national network of local planting partners, seed collectors, nurseries, regional field advisors and forestry specialists.
