Eurazeo, through its Planetary Boundaries Fund, has agreed to acquire a majority stake in MIYA Water, a specialist in reducing water losses and improving utility efficiency. MIYA has completed more than 200 projects across five continents since 2007, while its founders and management team will remain significant co-investors alongside Eurazeo. The transaction marks the fourth investment by the Eurazeo Planetary Boundaries Fund and remains subject to customary closing conditions.
Water Loss Is Becoming a Major Infrastructure Problem
MIYA focuses on reducing non-revenue water, which includes water lost through leaks, theft or metering errors before it reaches customers. The company works with utilities to improve network performance and reduce the amount of water that must be abstracted, treated and pumped without generating revenue.
Globally, non-revenue water is estimated at around 126 billion cubic metres each year. That creates both an environmental and financial problem for utilities, particularly as ageing networks, water stress and climate change increase pressure on existing infrastructure.

The Market for Water Efficiency Is Already Large
The global market for solutions aimed at reducing non-revenue water is estimated at around €50 billion annually. MIYA has built its position through projects across Europe, the Middle East, the Americas, Africa, South-East Asia and the South Pacific, giving it experience across a wide range of water systems and operating conditions.
Eurazeo plans to support further international expansion while also pursuing selective acquisitions in what it describes as a fragmented market. The strategy is aimed at building MIYA into a broader water-services platform rather than limiting growth to individual efficiency projects.
The Investment Fits Eurazeo’s Environmental Strategy
Eurazeo says the investment aligns with three areas of its Planetary Boundaries strategy: freshwater, pollution and climate change. Reducing water losses lowers the need for additional abstraction and treatment, while also cutting the energy associated with pumping and moving water through inefficient networks.
That creates a direct link between water efficiency and emissions reduction. Less wasted water means less energy used across the system, while better network performance can also improve the resilience of utilities facing tighter water availability and rising infrastructure costs.

MIYA’s Next Phase Will Combine Organic Growth and Acquisitions
Eurazeo intends to work with MIYA’s existing management team to strengthen the company’s organisation, improve performance and expand into new markets. The company’s founders will remain involved, while selective M&A is expected to form part of the growth plan.
Noam Komy, Executive Chairman of MIYA, said the next stage is about building a broader international water-services platform around the company’s existing expertise. The key test will be whether MIYA can scale its model across more utilities while maintaining the measurable operational savings that underpin its value proposition.
