DESRI and Meta Sign 850 MW of New PPAs Lifting Total Partnership to 2.5 GW Across Nine US States

DESRI and Meta Sign 850 MW of New PPAs Lifting Total Partnership to 2.5 GW Across Nine US States

DESRI and Meta have signed 850 megawatts of new power purchase agreements in 2026 covering 500 megawatts in Oklahoma, 200 megawatts in Texas and 150 megawatts in Mississippi, bringing the cumulative renewable energy partnership between the two companies to approximately 2,575 megawatts of solar and battery storage projects across nine United States states. The expanded commitment supports Meta's efforts to add new generation to the grid as it continues to match its rising electricity consumption with new clean and renewable energy. Approximately 1,110 megawatts of the contracted projects are expected to begin construction this year, generating hundreds of jobs and significant economic activity across rural communities hosting the developments.

The 2026 PPA Expansion in Detail

The new agreements include 500 megawatts of capacity in Oklahoma, 200 megawatts in Texas and 150 megawatts in Mississippi, extending Meta's clean energy procurement into geographies where Meta operates significant data centre and operational infrastructure. The selection of these states reflects both the abundance of solar resources and the regulatory environments that support utility-scale renewable energy development. Each project is being structured around long-term offtake commitments that provide DESRI with the revenue certainty needed to support project financing and construction.

These 2026 signings build on a portfolio that already includes contracted projects of 150 megawatts in Texas, 300 megawatts in Utah and 100 megawatts in New Mexico, among other developments across the partnership's nine-state footprint. The geographic diversity of the portfolio provides Meta with exposure to multiple regional grids and resource profiles while supporting DESRI's broader development pipeline across the country. The combination of scale and diversification creates a structurally strong foundation for both companies' renewable energy strategies.

Strategic Significance for Meta's Energy Strategy

Amanda Yang, Head of Clean and Renewable Energy at Meta, said DESRI has been a valued partner as the company works to bring new energy to grids across the United States. She added that the expanded partnership reflects Meta's commitment to supporting the communities where it operates. The framing positions the partnership as integral to Meta's broader strategy of matching rising data centre power demand with corresponding additions of new clean generation capacity.

Meta's continued procurement of utility-scale renewable energy reflects the structural reality of hyperscale data centre expansion in the AI era. As compute requirements rise sharply, large technology companies require predictable, long-term clean energy supply to support both operational performance and climate commitments. Partnerships of the scale demonstrated by Meta and DESRI provide a credible model for converting climate ambition into measurable grid additions across multiple regions.

DESRI's Development Capabilities and Customer Strategy

Hy Martin, Chief Development Officer of DESRI, said the partnership now spans nine states and over 2.5 gigawatts of capacity, supporting Meta's energy commitments while generating significant economic development across rural communities. He added that long-term relationships with large companies such as Meta form a cornerstone of DESRI's strategy of delivering cost-effective, reliable energy projects to power United States economic growth. The framing positions DESRI as a strategic infrastructure partner rather than a transactional project developer.

DESRI's portfolio currently includes more than 80 contracted, operating and in-construction renewable energy projects representing more than 12 gigawatts of aggregate capacity. This scale gives the company the operational depth required to deliver large multi-project commitments to hyperscale customers reliably. As the United States renewable energy market continues to expand under the pressure of AI-driven demand growth, developers with proven execution capabilities and long-term customer relationships are particularly well positioned to capture growing market share.

Community Impact and Workforce Development

Each project in the DESRI and Meta partnership is expected to create hundreds of construction jobs and contribute meaningfully to local economies throughout its operational term. The economic activity is particularly important in rural communities where renewable energy projects often represent some of the largest single private investments in years. Property tax revenues, lease payments to landowners and indirect economic activity collectively provide a substantial financial contribution to the host regions.

DESRI also regularly includes funding allocations in its PPAs to support high school scholarships for students pursuing clean energy careers, with similar initiatives planned for several states. Martin highlighted the Virginia Clean Energy Community Leaders Scholarship programme as an example of how the company is supporting the next generation of energy leaders through education-focused community investment. These workforce development initiatives address the longer-term challenge of building the human capital needed to support continued clean energy expansion across the United States.

Outlook for Hyperscale Renewable Procurement

The expanded partnership between DESRI and Meta reinforces a broader trend in which hyperscale technology companies are committing to multi-gigawatt renewable energy portfolios across diverse geographic footprints. As AI-driven electricity demand continues to accelerate, the pace and scale of corporate clean energy procurement is expected to remain elevated through the remainder of the decade. Developers capable of delivering diversified, geographically distributed portfolios will be best positioned to support these commitments.

Whether DESRI and Meta can continue to expand their partnership at the current pace will depend on grid interconnection availability, permitting timelines and the broader trajectory of United States renewable energy policy. Sustained execution at this scale would reinforce both companies' positioning as leaders in their respective segments of the United States clean energy ecosystem. The continued flow of hyperscale procurement is expected to remain one of the most important drivers of new utility-scale renewable capacity additions through the second half of the decade.
