De Nora and Maffei Sarda Join Forces to Advance Green Hydrogen in Sardinia

De Nora and Maffei Sarda Silicati will develop a Sardinian plant to produce 50 tonnes of green hydrogen annually. Supported by Italy’s PNRR, the project aims to cut emissions in industrial and other sectors.

De Nora, a prominent player in sustainable technologies, has partnered with Maffei Sarda Silicati to build a green hydrogen production plant in Ossi, Sardinia. The facility, expected to generate 50 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, will be powered by a 1.5 MW solar plant, ensuring an entirely sustainable operation.

The initiative, supported by Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), will aid Sardinia's efforts to transition to greener energy sources, reducing reliance on fossil fuels across industries, power generation, transportation, and heating.

De Nora will supply its patented Dragonfly® electrolyzer to produce 1 MW of green hydrogen per year. The hydrogen will be used by Maffei Sarda Silicati to reduce emissions in its industrial processes, particularly in the drying of mined sands.

Paolo Dellachà, CEO of De Nora, stated:
"We are proud to have been selected as a partner in this project that will significantly boost Sardinia's green transition. Through its sustainable and innovative solutions, such as the Dragonfly® electrolyzer, De Nora is once again a facilitator of green production processes, positively impacting territories and communities."

The Dragonfly® electrolyzer, designed as a modular plug-and-play solution, is particularly suited to local industrial needs, enabling seamless integration with Maffei Sarda's existing infrastructure.

Federico Fiorelli, President of Maffei Sarda Silicati, commented:
"This agreement with De Nora marks another step toward achieving zero emissions across our activities. The installation of a 1 MW electrolyzer by 2026 will significantly reduce CO2 emissions, aligning with our commitment to environmental responsibility."

This partnership underscores Sardinia's ambition to lead in sustainable energy adoption, leveraging green hydrogen to decarbonize various sectors and support Italy's broader energy transition goals.
