Climate Data Hub Unlocks Access to Climate Information to Support Implementation

Centralized Platform for Global Climate Transparency

Global climate transparency has entered a new phase with the launch of the Climate Data Hub, a centralized platform that consolidates climate data from more than 190 countries in one place. Developed by UN Climate Change in partnership with Microsoft, EY and NEDAMCO Africa, the platform is designed to provide critical insights into progress, gaps, financial flows and support needs under the Paris Agreement.

For the first time, stakeholders can access harmonized and official climate data through a single interface. The Hub is intended to help translate climate ambition into measurable outcomes by making information easier to access, analyze and apply in decision-making processes.

Xuehong Wang, Director of Transparency at UN Climate Change, said the initiative transforms climate data into actionable knowledge. She emphasized that transparency enables countries to identify priorities, assess progress and strengthen collaboration to drive implementation and real-world results.

The platform is currently operational in its first phase, offering public access to financial, technical and capacity-building support data submitted under the Paris Agreement’s Enhanced Transparency Framework. Future updates will expand functionality and integrate additional datasets as reporting evolves.

Addressing Fragmented Reporting Systems

Historically, climate data submitted under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Enhanced Transparency Framework has been abundant but difficult to compare. Countries reported in varying formats, creating complexity for policymakers, researchers and civil society seeking to track progress or analyze trends.

The Climate Data Hub addresses this challenge by applying advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and user-focused design to transform submitted information into clear insights and visualizations. The system operates under strict United Nations data governance standards to ensure integrity and security.

Melanie Nakagawa, Chief Sustainability Officer at Microsoft, said the platform tackles fragmentation in climate reporting by centralizing data management and enabling transparent tracking of climate action. She noted that technology plays a critical role in turning data into implementation-oriented insights for governments, investors and industry.

Supporting Policymakers, Investors and Researchers

The Hub is designed to serve a broad range of stakeholders, including policymakers, business leaders, investors, researchers, development agencies and civil society organizations. Through a simplified query interface, users can explore official data to inform planning, research and investment decisions.

For governments, the platform provides a clearer view of national and sectoral progress over time, helping assess policy effectiveness and identify strategic pathways grounded in verified information. Researchers gain immediate access to harmonized datasets to strengthen modeling and long-term assessments.

Investors and development partners can use the data to better understand financing gaps, support needs and emerging opportunities linked to climate implementation.

Transparency as a Driver of Climate Action

Beyond reporting, transparency is positioned as a strategic tool to strengthen climate policy and mobilize finance. By improving access to reliable data, the Climate Data Hub aims to support more efficient allocation of resources and accelerate progress across sectors.

Wang described the launch as a strategic step in empowering governments and implementers to enhance data-driven climate action in what she called a new era of implementation. The Hub is expected to evolve as countries continue submitting updated information, reinforcing transparency as a foundation for global climate governance and practical delivery.
