The Government of Canada has announced an investment of up to $1.65 million to Toronto-based A.U.G. Signals Ltd. to develop AI-driven tools for crop health monitoring and yield forecasting. The funding, delivered through the AgriScience Program under the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, was announced on 9 July 2026 by MP Chi Nguyen on behalf of Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Heath MacDonald. The three-year project aims to strengthen climate resilience on Canadian farms by combining satellite, drone and field data into real-time monitoring tools.
A.U.G. Signals will lead the research effort, building technology to help producers assess crop emergence, above-ground biomass, drought conditions and yield predictions as conditions change through a growing season. The company will work alongside Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada scientists on key research activities, including collecting field data and validating the AI models the project develops, pairing private technology development with public agricultural research expertise.

The grant sits within the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership, a $3.5 billion, five-year agreement running from 2023 to 2028 between federal, provincial and territorial governments aimed at strengthening the competitiveness, innovation and resilience of Canada's agriculture and agri-food sector. The AgriScience Program specifically funds pre-commercial science and research intended to benefit the wider industry rather than a single company's product line.
Minister Heath MacDonald said the government was committed to investing in technologies that position Canadian farmers for success, and that artificial intelligence and remote sensing would help the sector adapt to climate change while opening new opportunities for growth. Dr. George Lampropoulos, president and chief executive of A.U.G. Signals, said the project was expected to improve productivity, sustainability and resilience across Canada's agricultural sector while accelerating the commercialisation of data-driven agricultural technologies.
