Blackstone has announced the final close of its Blackstone Energy Transition Partners V (BETP V) fund at $8.7 billion, more than 50% larger than its predecessor. Announced on 19 October 2026, the fund was significantly oversubscribed and reached its maximum fundraising limit. BETP V will invest in companies and infrastructure supporting growing electricity demand, with a focus on power generation, transmission, energy efficiency and critical energy equipment. The fund builds on Blackstone's established energy transition investment strategy, which seeks to develop and expand businesses supplying reliable and increasingly efficient energy infrastructure.
The fund began investing in June 2026 and has already provided capital to three platform companies: Kindle, Fisterra and Viridon. These businesses are focused on developing and operating electricity generation facilities and transmission infrastructure. BETP V has also made three acquisitions involving Flow Control Holdings, a supplier of liquid cooling components for data centres; Dresser Utility Solutions, which provides measurement, control and repair equipment for gas and water utilities; and DarkVision, a technology-enabled inspection services provider for critical energy infrastructure. The investments reflect Blackstone's approach to financing both electricity supply and the equipment needed to improve infrastructure efficiency and reliability.

Since January 2025, Blackstone Energy Transition Partners has committed more than $11 billion in new equity investments across the broader energy sector. These include investments in electrical equipment manufacturers such as MacLean Power Systems, Delta Star and Power Grid Components, alongside energy infrastructure services and data analytics businesses. The strategy also includes investments in natural gas-fired power generation, including Hill Top Energy Center, Wolf Summit Energy and Potomac Energy Center. This diversified approach extends beyond renewable energy to include conventional power infrastructure and technologies intended to improve energy efficiency and reliability.
David Foley, Global Head of Blackstone Energy Transition Partners, highlighted the investment opportunity created by rising electricity consumption. "We believe there is a generational opportunity for experienced investors in the energy transition to provide solutions to the challenges posed by growing demand for electricity," he said. Foley added that Blackstone aims to support companies through long-term equity investment, helping them expand manufacturing capacity, recruit skilled workers and construct critical energy infrastructure. According to Blackstone, its energy transition investment strategy has generated a 34% net internal rate of return since 1997, as measured on 30 June 2026. This represents historical strategy performance rather than returns generated by the newly closed BETP V fund.
Blackstone has also continued to realise investments from its earlier funds. Recent transactions include an agreement to sell Aypa Power, a North American battery storage platform with a 6 GW portfolio, the sale of a majority interest in infrastructure manufacturer Sabre Industries and the initial public offering of Legence, an engineering and mechanical services provider. With BETP V now fully raised, Blackstone has additional capital available to expand its energy infrastructure portfolio as electricity demand increases across data centres, industrial facilities and other major power-consuming sectors.
