Berlin-based startup carbmee has raised €20 million (approximately USD $21 million) in a funding round to expand its carbon management platform and enhance its suite of AI-powered software and services. Founded in 2021, carbmee develops tools to help organizations effectively measure, reduce, and report their carbon emissions, addressing growing regulatory and reporting demands worldwide.
The funds will be used to further develop the company’s Environmental Intelligence System (EIS), which enables granular data collection for life-cycle assessments (LCA) aligned with European Union carbon regulations. carbmee’s platform is tailored for industries with complex supply chains, focusing on scope 3 emissions, which often account for over 80% of a company's carbon footprint.
CEO and co-founder Christian Heinrich described the funding as a validation of carbmee’s vision and technology. "This milestone confirms the decisions we made four years ago, anticipating the rising importance of scope 3 emissions in manufacturing. Our platform addresses these needs, enabling enterprises to meet sustainability goals while navigating the complexities of the global supply chain."
The company has already partnered with major international clients, including Lufthansa Technik, Maersk, Kärcher, Hilti, Miele, Coca-Cola, Schaeffler, and Anglo American. Co-founder Robin Spickers emphasized the platform's role in overcoming inefficiencies caused by siloed data and manual processes. "Current practices rely heavily on Excel spreadsheets, leading to inaccuracies and inefficiencies. Our solution unites procurement, R&D, finance, and production teams under a single, integrated system to ensure accurate carbon reporting and management."
The funding round was led by CommerzVentures, a climate fintech investor, with additional participation from Fly Ventures and several angel investors. Paul Morgenthaler, Managing Partner at CommerzVentures, praised carbmee’s leadership in addressing a key challenge for industries. "Their software demystifies the complexities of decarbonizing global supply chains, empowering businesses to take actionable steps toward sustainability. We are thrilled to support carbmee’s ambitious journey toward transforming industrial practices."
With the new funding, carbmee aims to further its impact on global sustainability efforts by empowering businesses to streamline carbon accounting and meet rigorous environmental standards. As pressure mounts for companies to address their carbon emissions, carbmee’s innovative tools position it as a critical ally in the transition to a greener economy.
