Aquila Energy has closed a strategic investment from CenterNode, an alternative energy investment platform with more than $800 million in institutional capital commitments. The investment amount was not disclosed. Aquila specializes in engineering, procurement and construction services for solar and battery energy storage projects, with the funding intended to strengthen the company's financial position and bonding capacity.
The investment specifically targets what both companies describe as an underserved segment of the renewable energy market: distributed generation and small utility-scale solar and battery storage projects that require institutional-quality execution but have become less of a priority for larger EPC firms increasingly focused on the industry's largest projects. That market positioning reflects a common pattern in maturing industries, where larger, more established service providers gravitate toward the biggest, highest-value contracts, leaving mid-sized projects that still require sophisticated technical execution somewhat underserved by comparison.

Aquila founder and chief executive Brian Barker said, "Today marks a defining milestone in Aquila's history," adding that "there is a growing need for an EPC partner that can bring institutional-quality execution, financial strength, and accountability to distributed generation and small utility-scale projects." He said the investment would let the company "invest in our people, technology, and operating capabilities while staying agile and close to our customers."
CenterNode founder and chief executive Seth Zeleznik said, "Renewable energy deployment is growing rapidly, particularly across distributed generation and small utility-scale projects, even as many businesses and capital providers are moving toward the largest projects in the market." He added that this shift "has created a meaningful service gap for high-quality projects that still require institutional-grade execution," and that CenterNode was "excited to provide the capital and strategic support needed to help Aquila grow while preserving the culture and responsiveness that have driven its success."
The partnership is intended to support Aquila's continued work across the full project lifecycle, from early-stage engineering and value optimization through procurement, construction, commissioning and project closeout, with expanded bonding capacity giving the company greater ability to take on and financially guarantee larger or more numerous project commitments than its balance sheet would otherwise support independently.
