Amazon, Google, and Meta have joined a pledge to triple nuclear energy capacity by 2050, ensuring sustainable power for the growing AI and data center industry.
March 12, 2025 – Amazon, Google, and Meta have joined a major initiative to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050, supporting the push for clean, reliable power to meet growing electricity demands.
Tech Giants Back Nuclear for AI and Sustainability
The “Large Energy Users Pledge”, spearheaded by the World Nuclear Association, includes signatories such as Siemens Energy, Dow, Occidental, and Bureau Veritas. With AI-driven data centers increasing power consumption, tech firms see nuclear energy as a key solution to maintaining carbon reduction targets while meeting surging energy needs.
- Meta received 50+ nuclear project submissions after launching an RFP to add 1-4 GW of new nuclear capacity in the U.S.
- Amazon invested $1 billion in nuclear energy projects over the past year to align with its net-zero by 2040 commitment.
- Google aims for 24/7 carbon-free energy (CFE) by 2030 and signed a deal with Kairos Power to deploy 500 MW of advanced nuclear capacity.
