Dutch financial giant Achmea Investment Management has announced the launch of a new private equity impact fund, setting its sights on a €250 million portfolio that aims to generate both strong financial returns and measurable benefits for people and the planet.
The newly established fund, titled Achmea IM PE Partnership Fund – Healthy People & Planet 2025, represents a significant step forward in the firm’s commitment to impact investing, a fast-growing segment that blends purpose-driven goals with institutional-grade investment returns.
Investing in a Healthier and More Sustainable Future
Designed for Dutch pension funds and institutional investors, the fund focuses on four key themes: climate resilience, biodiversity protection, healthy nutrition, and public health. According to Achmea, the objective is not just to chase returns but to back companies whose core business models help shape a healthier society and environment.
The fund is structured to provide investors with cost-efficient access to global private equity opportunities that align with the broader vision of social and environmental well-being. The firm has already secured €225 million in capital commitments, bringing it close to its €250 million target ahead of its initial closing.

A Dual Focus: Measurable Impact and Market Returns
Achmea emphasized that while the fund is built around impact themes, financial discipline remains at its core. The fund will pursue private equity investments that offer compelling risk-adjusted returns, alongside intentional, quantifiable contributions to sustainability and human health.
Companies considered for the fund must demonstrate a clear and credible ability to address one or more of the target impact areas. In addition, Achmea’s evaluation framework will require that their positive outcomes are trackable and reportable, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the investment lifecycle.
Strategic Partnerships to Scale Impact
Achmea IM has appointed Neuberger Berman Private Markets as its strategic investment partner for this initiative. Leveraging Neuberger’s deep expertise in global private equity, the fund is expected to identify and access high-quality deal flow that matches its dual mandate of financial performance and impact delivery.
First investments from the fund are anticipated in Q4 2025, with an investment strategy that spans both primary and secondary private equity markets, co-investments, and potentially direct positions in companies that meet the fund’s strict criteria.
Responding to Growing Demand for Impact Investment Solutions
Maureen Schlejen, Chair of the Achmea IM Board, underlined the strong appetite among clients for vehicles that combine purpose with performance.
“There is enormous interest in impact investing among our clients,” she said. “We’re proud to have developed this fund in close collaboration with them. Partnerships like this are key to scaling up the real-world impact of institutional capital.”
She added that the fund presents an opportunity for pension funds and other long-term investors to support sustainable transitions while still meeting their return expectations.
A Broader Push Toward Responsible Capital Deployment
This new initiative forms part of a wider shift within Achmea and the Dutch financial sector at large, where environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations are becoming embedded in long-term investment strategies. The launch of the fund follows increasing pressure from regulators and stakeholders alike for financial institutions to help drive progress on climate and health goals.
By offering a dedicated platform for private equity investments rooted in impact themes, Achmea aims to bridge the gap between institutional investors and mission-aligned companies, helping to fund innovations in clean energy, sustainable agriculture, preventative healthcare, and biodiversity protection.

Looking Ahead: Building Resilience Through Capital
With global challenges like climate change, food insecurity, and public health crises intensifying, Achmea’s new fund signals a belief that private capital has a critical role to play in building more resilient societies.
As the fund gears up for deployment, it will not only monitor financial performance but also report on tangible impact outcomes, offering investors a holistic view of how their capital is contributing to systems-level change.
With its first investments expected later this year and a full rollout in 2026, the Healthy People & Planet 2025 fund could serve as a blueprint for how mainstream finance can step into the impact investing space without sacrificing returns.
