Position summary
Arcadis is seeking a Water Resources Consultant to support the delivery of some of the UK's most challenging water resources, water environment, and infrastructure projects, working as part of its multidisciplinary Climate Adaptation team. You will contribute to a broad range of studies for clients including water companies, local authorities, regulators, developers, and infrastructure providers, developing your skills in water resources, hydrology, water balance assessment, environmental assessment, climate resilience, and sustainable water management. The role is primarily aimed at a developing water resources consultant, with opportunities to gain broader experience across Water Cycle Studies, WINEP-related investigations, water company planning, and integrated water management.

Key responsibilities
- Project delivery: Support the delivery of water resources, hydrology, water balance, and integrated water management projects.
- Assessments and reports: Assist with the preparation of water balance assessments, water resource studies, and technical reports.
- Data analysis: Analyse hydrological, meteorological, environmental, and water demand datasets to support project delivery.
- Technical studies: Contribute to Water Cycle Studies, Water Framework Directive assessments, low-flow assessments, environmental assessments, and sustainability studies, and support WINEP-related investigations and future AMP planning.
- Sustainable solutions: Support the development of nature-based solutions and sustainable water management strategies.
- Permitting: Assist in the preparation of abstraction licence applications, permitting documentation, and regulatory submissions.
- Bids and appraisals: Assist with business cases, options appraisals, bids, fee estimates, capability statements, and technical submissions, with support from senior colleagues.
- GIS and visuals: Produce GIS mapping, data visualisations, and technical figures for reports and client presentations.
- Collaboration and delivery: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across flood risk, hydrology, environmental management, planning, and infrastructure, support project management activities, and ensure compliance with Arcadis quality, health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Team and stakeholders
You will work within Arcadis's multidisciplinary Climate Adaptation team alongside experienced water management professionals and technical specialists, collaborating across flood risk, hydrology, environmental management, planning, and infrastructure disciplines, and developing relationships with clients, regulators, and stakeholders with support from senior colleagues.

Requirements:
- Degree in a relevant discipline such as Water Resources, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geography, Environmental Science, or Hydrology, or equivalent professional experience.
- Understanding of water resources, hydrology, water management, or environmental assessment principles, gained through study, placements, apprenticeships, or professional experience.
- Experience using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and the ability to use, interpret, or develop GIS outputs and spatial information, with support and training where required.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and the ability to analyse and interpret environmental, hydrological, and water resources data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparing clear, concise technical reports.
- Enthusiasm for learning and developing technical knowledge in a collaborative team, and the ability to manage multiple tasks within a project team.
- Desirable: experience or interest in water resources assessments, Water Cycle Studies, flood risk, hydrology, or environmental consultancy; familiarity with the Water Framework Directive, integrated water management, sustainable drainage, low-flow and environmental flow assessment, abstraction licensing, or permitting; knowledge of climate, drought resilience, or water efficiency strategies; and membership of, or aspiration to join, CIWEM or ICE.
