Position summary
DeepMind is hiring a Technical Program Manager for its Sustainability team to manage internal research operations and external launches for applied AI projects. The program's mission is to revolutionize environmental sustainability with AI across grid operations, renewable energy, weather modeling, biodiversity, and agriculture, working with a global team spanning the US, UK, India, and Europe.

Key responsibilities
- Drive workflows end to end by setting technical requirements, timelines, and progress metrics using agile and waterfall tools and tracking dependencies and risks across projects and launches.
- Align teams across Google on shared goals and critical decisions.
- Track progress by identifying risks, defining success metrics, and building simple dashboards or tools to communicate progress.
- Cultivate external alliances with government, non-profit, and industry bodies while refining operational tools and AI workflows.
- Advise on strategy by staying current in AI and sustainability domains such as energy grids, renewables, weather, biodiversity, and agriculture.
Team and stakeholders
The role sits within DeepMind's Sustainability research program, a highly global team across the US, UK, India, and Europe, working with AI modeling research teams, cross-Google stakeholders, and external government, non-profit, and industry partners.

- Based in New York, NY, US.
- Salary of $217,000 to $236,000, plus a 15% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
- Manages applied AI projects spanning grid operations, renewables, weather, biodiversity, and agriculture.
Requirements
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5 years of program management experience in an AI-related field, on a technical research or product team.
- Experience leading projects with cross-team stakeholders and driving alignment across organizational boundaries.
- Experience with AI systems leveraging geospatial data for weather, energy, biodiversity, agriculture, or related sustainability domains.
- Experience managing external technology launches (open source releases, enterprise products, research demos and papers) end to end.
Preferred
- Experience with AI modeling research teams, including large-scale model training and evaluation needs.
- Experience with agile and waterfall methodologies and project tools.
- Skill at leveraging AI tools and workflows to accelerate operations.
