Job Description
Position summary
Technical Program Managers on Google’s Sustainability Data and Tech team orchestrate key technology initiatives and data-driven solutions that directly support Google-wide sustainability goals. In this role, you will lead the planning, technical execution, and delivery of specific program areas and technology solutions, translating sustainability requirements into actionable technical roadmaps and driving agile delivery from concept to launch, while bringing data analytics and dashboarding capabilities to core domain metrics such as carbon and water.
Why this role matters
Google’s Global Sustainability team drives the company’s global sustainability strategy across carbon, circular economy, water, product integration, reporting, and employee engagement. This role builds and operates the data platforms and tools that let that strategy run on reliable metrics and empower internal users to generate their own insights.
Key responsibilities
- Translate requirements into roadmaps by turning business needs and sustainability user pain points into clear, prioritized technical roadmaps and feature backlogs.
- Manage the full solution lifecycle of technical solutions, tools, and data pipelines from concept through launch, driving agile rituals (sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospectives), managing dependencies, and resolving cross-functional blockers.
- Analyze sustainability data across core domains such as carbon, water, and environmental metrics, and build intuitive dashboards and reports to track key business KPIs and trends.
- Own live solutions as the day-to-day technical owner, monitoring health metrics, establishing operational support procedures, triaging issues, and driving continuous improvement from user feedback.
- Enhance solutions by identifying opportunities for process automation, improved data ingestion, and emerging technologies (including AI/ML tools), and leading rapid prototyping and user testing.
Team and stakeholders
You will partner closely with program leadership, business stakeholders, and engineering teammates, and empower internal users across Google to build insights on the team’s data platforms.
Key details
Preferred working locations are Mountain View, New York, Portland, Seattle, and San Francisco. Compensation includes a 15% bonus target plus equity and benefits.

- Experience working with business data, reporting platforms, or technical solutions within sustainability, environmental science, carbon or energy accounting, or related quantitative domains.
Preferred
- 2 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
- Experience managing technical projects through the full lifecycle using agile frameworks, sprint planning, and issue/task tracking systems (e.g., TaskFlow, Jira).
- Experience creating data visualizations and dashboards using tools such as Tableau, Looker, or Power BI.
- Strong technical judgment with the ability to understand data architectures, ETL pipelines, and API integrations.
