Why this role matters

As part of a small, expert team, the role keeps LSE’s day-to-day operations sustainable and compliant: coordinating waste services across campus and halls, supporting the School’s Travel Plan, maintaining environmental performance data, contributing to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 compliance, and driving engagement and behaviour change.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate waste services across campus and halls on a day-to-day basis.
  • Support sustainable travel by helping implement the School’s Travel Plan.
  • Maintain environmental data and performance records, producing accurate management information for internal and external reporting.
  • Support compliance by contributing to ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 and Duty of Care requirements for waste.
  • Support engagement and behaviour change initiatives across staff and students.

Team and stakeholders

The role sits in the Sustainability Team within the Estates Division and works closely with Facilities Management, Capital Development and Residences colleagues, as well as contractors, staff and students.

Key details

  • Monday to Friday, 09:00–17:00 (35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE); hybrid working.
  • Flexibility required to support activities outside normal hours during busy periods such as move-out weekends and graduation.
  • Benefits include an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave and training and development.

Requirements

  • Experience coordinating operational sustainability activities, such as waste management, sustainable travel, carbon reporting or resource efficiency, ideally in a higher education, estates or facilities management environment.
  • Understanding of environmental management systems, standards and legislation, including ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and Duty of Care requirements for waste.
  • Experience maintaining and analysing environmental performance data, with the ability to produce accurate management information for internal and external reporting (e.g. SECR, HESA, EMR).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to engage a wide range of stakeholders including contractors, staff and students.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, able to manage multiple workstreams, prioritise effectively and maintain accurate compliance records.
