Job Description

Position summary

ICF is seeking a Sustainable Aviation Analytics Associate to use data and analytical tools to help make aviation more sustainable. Sitting within ICF’s dedicated Sustainable Aviation team (part of the Aviation, Travel and Tourism consulting division), the role develops and applies analytical models and tools to support aviation decarbonisation decision-making, including work on sustainable aviation fuels, project economics, policy design, market analysis, and emissions assessment.

Why this role matters

Decarbonising aviation is increasingly urgent, and ICF’s work spans the design, evaluation, and implementation of policies, pragmatic corporate sustainability strategies, and delivery of sustainability initiatives for governments, investors, NGOs, airlines, and airports. This role provides the evidence-led analysis that underpins those decisions.

Key responsibilities

  • Build analytical models by developing, improving, and applying models and tools to answer complex questions across sustainable aviation projects.
  • Work with data by analysing, managing, and visualising varied datasets and maintaining robust, efficient, well-documented analytical workflows.
  • Use coding and AI by applying coding, automation, and emerging AI tools where appropriate to improve the quality and efficiency of analysis.
  • Translate findings into clear outputs and practical recommendations for clients and colleagues.
  • Contribute to delivery and growth through research, report writing, proposals, and the development of new methods and services.
  • Provide robust solutions by keeping up to date with market developments, policies, methodologies, and practices, and developing new ways of working.
  • Support business growth by building industry relationships, writing proposals, contributing to articles, and representing ICF at conferences.

Team and stakeholders

The role sits within ICF’s Sustainable Aviation team, part of the Aviation, Travel and Tourism consulting division, working with colleagues and clients including governments, investors, NGOs, airlines, and airports, with opportunities to contribute to wider aviation projects.

Key details

This role can be based in either the UK (London) or Spain, with a hybrid working policy. Benefits include single private medical insurance, dental insurance and an online GP service, 25 days’ annual leave plus UK bank holidays, a pension with 5% employer contribution, and life assurance.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of relevant professional, academic, or research experience (relevant postgraduate research, including a PhD, will be considered).
  • Proven quantitative and problem-solving ability, including processing, analysing, and visualising data.
  • Experience using Python or another analytical programming language, or a strong interest and demonstrated ability to learn these tools.
  • Strong research skills, able to efficiently identify and evaluate relevant data and evidence from academic literature and other credible sources.
  • Knowledge of aviation, sustainability, energy, transport, environmental policy, or low-carbon fuels would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant quantitative, scientific, engineering, economics, data, or policy-related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, including formal report writing, presentation, and client management, primarily in English.
