Position summary
As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for the successful planning, coordination, and delivery of engineering and consultancy projects, typically up to £2M in value. You will manage project scope, programme, risks, resources, information flow, and financial performance while supporting client satisfaction and technical excellence. Working under the direction of a Senior Project Manager and/or Project Principal, you will coordinate project teams and ensure delivery aligns with contractual requirements, project objectives, and HDR quality management processes.

This role ensures HDR's engineering and consultancy projects within its Sustainability and Resilience practice are delivered on time, on budget, and to quality. By coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing risk, budget, and client relationships across the project lifecycle, the Project Manager underpins delivery of the environmental and sustainability-focused work of HDR's Building Engineering Services Group.
Key responsibilities
- Project delivery: Lead the day-to-day management and delivery of projects, typically up to £2M in value, ensuring deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
- Planning: Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, and resource plans, and maintain clear project scopes, assumptions, and deliverables.
- Team coordination: Direct and coordinate single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project lifecycle, from development and initiation to close-out, regardless of size or complexity.
- Progress and risk: Monitor progress against programme and implement corrective actions where required, and facilitate project risk identification and assessment.
- Financials: Monitor project budgets, resource utilisation, and forecasts.
- Client relations: Establish client relations and take part in marketing, contractual, design, and production meetings.
- Quality compliance: Ensure compliance with HDR Integrated Management Systems and project procedures, and implement QA/QC procedures.
- Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to project delivery teams, including Associate Directors, Associates, Senior Consultants, Consultants, and Graduates, and manage project close-out activities.
Team and stakeholders
The role reports to a Senior Project Manager and/or Project Principal, leads project delivery teams (Associate Directors through Graduates), and engages clients across marketing, contractual, design, and production meetings.

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.
- Minimum 15 years related experience, including minimum 2 years of project management experience.
- Experience working within a consultancy is essential.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng), Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), or equivalent, or working towards chartered status.
- Competent in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; MS Project desirable.
