The Role


General Motors has a vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion, and your work in this role will be a key piece of this vision. The Global Sustainability organization is seeking highly motivated and self-directed candidates for the position of Sustainability Reporting Process & Technology Lead. In this role, you will lead the preparation, publication, and submission of high‑quality sustainability disclosures. As part of the Sustainability Reporting & Analytics team, this role supports readiness for evolving regulatory requirements, including the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), and serves as a critical link between sustainability strategy, data owners, reporting teams, and enterprise systems.


This role is also responsible for establishing / enhancing data collection processes, controls, and technologies that underpin sustainability disclosures, ensuring rigor, transparency, and efficiency across current and future reporting requirements.


What You'll Do


  • Lead and support the coordination, preparation, and publication of internal and external sustainability disclosures.
  • Translate emerging and evolving sustainability regulations and standards into clear reporting, data, and system requirements.
  • Drive data readiness, control effectiveness, and regulatory preparedness across sustainability reporting.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve reporting processes, governance, and supporting technologies to enable efficient, repeatable, and well‑controlled disclosures.
  • Partner closely with sustainability subject matter experts and cross‑functional stakeholders (e.g., Controllership, Communications, Legal, Internal Audit, Public Policy, IT, and
  • external assurance providers) to execute team‑based reporting processes.
  • Oversee data management practices to improve data quality, traceability, documentation, and auditability.
  • Monitor reporting performance, identify gaps or risks, and lead remediation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support assurance activities by ensuring documentation, controls, and systems are aligned with assurance and audit expectations.


Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Data Science, Finance or Sustainability related programs (Climate, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience in Sustainability Reporting field
  • Experience in sustainability, ESG, financial, or regulatory reporting with a strong focus on data, processes, and controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross‑functional reporting processes and timelines.
  • Strong understanding of data governance, internal controls, and process design.
  • Experience translating regulatory or technical requirements into practical reporting and data solutions.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including finance, legal, communications, and assurance teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with attention to detail and quality.
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence in a dynamic regulatory environment.


What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)


  • Direct experience with sustainability reporting frameworks and regulations (e.g., CSRD, IFRS, EU taxonomy, CDP, or similar).
  • Experience supporting external assurance or audit of non‑financial or sustainability information.
  • Hands‑on experience with sustainability reporting systems and enterprise data platforms.
  • Background in process transformation, system enablement, or reporting technology implementation.
  • Familiarity with emerging regulatory trends and stakeholder expectations related to ESG and sustainability disclosures.
  • Experience with various coding languages (SQL, Python, or similar)
  • Experience with building data visualization tools (Power BI or similar)
