Position summary


VARO Energy is seeking a Sustainability Analyst for its VAROPreem team in Rotterdam. You will ensure compliance with national and international legislation on incorporating renewable fuels into mineral oils, and facilitate optimal commercial decision-making on the mass-balance allocation of biofuels. Working closely with Traders, the Sustainability Assurance team, and other departments, you will maintain accurate biofuel administrations and ensure timely submission of documentation to customers and reports to national authorities.

Biofuel sustainability credentials underpin both regulatory compliance and commercial value in physical fuel trading. This role makes sure every biofuel flow is properly certified, correctly allocated across geographies and applications, and reported on time, protecting the business’s licence to operate while enabling smart commercial decisions.


Key responsibilities


  • Allocate sustainability credentials to physical flows of biofuels across various applications and destinations and geographies.
  • Compile internal reports on biofuel flows within VAROPreem’s network.
  • Ensure client documentation is submitted on time and meets sustainability requirements.
  • Work with suppliers to ensure compliance with biofuel administration requirements.
  • Support authority reporting by contributing to the submission of biofuel reports to national authorities.
  • Monitor and improve relevant data, systems, and processes, suggesting improvements.
  • Flag risks related to transactions and recommend necessary internal controls.


Team and stakeholders


You will join an experienced team of Sustainability Analysts in the VAROPreem office in Rotterdam, reporting to the Trade Support Manager and working closely with Traders, the Sustainability Assurance team, suppliers, customers, and national authorities.


Key details


This is a full-time (40 hours) role based in VARO’s Rotterdam office. The package includes a (partly) employer-financed pension and a bike plan, within an international corporate environment.


Requirements


  • A Master’s degree in Business Economics, Accounting & Controlling, Sustainability, Finance, or a related field is an advantage.
  • Experience with reporting and familiarity with legal or regulatory frameworks and/or commodity markets is required.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of Dutch, German, or French is beneficial.
  • Affinity with ERP systems and confidence working with digital tools.
  • A responsible, reliable, detail-oriented approach with a strong focus on accuracy and quality.
  • A collaborative team player who works well across functions.
  • Proactive, results-driven, and eager to take ownership.
  • Motivated to keep learning and grow within sustainability assurance.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a critical, analytical mindset and a drive for continuous improvement.
