Job Description

Position summary

Tesco is looking for a Sustainability Analyst to join the Climate team within its Quality function. You will use data-driven insights to shape the sustainability strategy, build robust business cases, and support key decision-making across the business, working closely with Property, Transport, Business Units, and ESG Finance to ensure climate data is effectively managed, reported, and embedded into governance processes.

Why this role matters

This role provides the climate data and insight behind Tesco's Net Zero ambitions. By owning emissions reporting, supporting assurance, engaging suppliers on data, and feeding sustainability KPIs and third-party rankings such as CDP, the analyst ensures Tesco's climate performance is credible, well-governed, and clearly communicated.

Key responsibilities

  • Reporting ownership: Own the reporting process and drive continual improvement, working with hub colleagues to collect quarterly emissions data and presenting insights and results to relevant teams.
  • Assurance: Participate in the annual assurance process.
  • Performance data: Provide data to report performance for sustainability KPIs, public third-party rankings (e.g. CDP), and press, customer, and NGO inquiries.
  • Supplier payments and engagement: Lead the processing of supplier payments for the Climate workstream and engage suppliers on data collection in the annual engagement campaign.
  • Team engagement: Engage the wider group sustainability team through monthly connects and work alongside subject matter experts in climate, nature, and forests, with opportunities to step into wider projects.
  • Relationships: Build relationships across the business and promote the sustainability agenda.

Team and stakeholders

The role sits in the Climate team (Quality function) and works with hub colleagues, Property, Transport, Business Units, ESG Finance, the wider group sustainability team, suppliers, and external stakeholders (CDP, press, customers, NGOs).

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in data analysis, reporting, and generating actionable insights, presenting findings through visualisations and stakeholder presentations.
  • Knowledge of environmental sustainability and industry trends, with a genuine passion for people and the planet.
  • Proven ability to build and manage stakeholder and supplier relationships and influence decision-making across functions.
  • Experience driving process and system improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and reporting quality.
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail, able to prioritise competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
