Position summary


Wellington Management is hiring a Stewardship Associate in London to support the firm's stewardship activities within its Stewardship & Sustainable Investment team (part of the COO Group on the Investment Platform). The role partners with investment professionals to execute company engagements, inform proxy voting, and advance research on governance and financially material sustainability issues.

As Wellington scales its stewardship capabilities across engagement, proxy voting and operations, this role helps connect stewardship to investment relevance and long-term client outcomes, contributing to engagement prioritisation, proxy analysis, stewardship reporting and process improvement.


Key responsibilities


  • Drive company engagement by supporting and, where appropriate, leading engagements with management and boards to advance stewardship priorities and inform voting.
  • Analyse proxy votes across global markets and formulate recommendations consistent with Wellington's Proxy Voting Guidelines.
  • Support proxy operations during peak season while improving the efficiency and quality of voting workflows.
  • Maintain stewardship data and accurate engagement records to support reporting, measurement and transparency.
  • Apply data and AI tools to improve proxy analysis, engagement capture and reporting.
  • Support reporting and RFPs and help embed stewardship capabilities in investor workflows.


Team and stakeholders


Sits within the Stewardship & Sustainable Investment team in the COO Group, partnering with investment professionals, stewardship colleagues, and teams across the Investment and Client Platforms.


Key details


  • Hybrid working: four days per week in the office with one day remote.
  • Exceptional early-career candidates with strong analytical and writing skills and a demonstrated interest in corporate governance may also be considered.


Requirements


  • Undergraduate degree in finance, economics, business, law, sustainability, political science, data analytics or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in investment stewardship, corporate governance, investment research, responsible investing, sustainability, consulting or investor relations.
  • Strong analytical and research judgment, able to evaluate disclosures, governance practices, proxy materials and sustainability reporting.
  • A genuine interest in governance, stewardship, sustainability and long-term investing, connecting stewardship to investment relevance.
  • Superior communication and collaboration skills across investment and client teams.
  • Process discipline and a continuous-improvement mindset, able to manage multiple priorities during peak proxy season.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with Power BI, Python or AI-enabled workflows is a plus.
