Job Description
Position summary
Amazon is seeking a Sr. Lead, Sustainability Reporting to support its global sustainability disclosure processes within the Worldwide Sustainability Regulatory Reporting team. This role helps scale Amazon's regulatory reporting infrastructure and deliver high-quality sustainability disclosures by partnering cross-functionally to understand Amazon's sustainability programs and key metrics. You will be the single-threaded owner of ISSB reporting for all in-scope Amazon legal entities globally, from scoping requirements and designing the disclosure framework through data collection, drafting, review, external assurance, and final delivery to senior leadership.
Why this role matters
This role owns the quality, integrity, and delivery of Amazon's ISSB-aligned sustainability disclosures worldwide. By establishing the control environment around these disclosures, ensuring documented data lineage and a complete audit trail, and driving continuous improvement, you help Amazon meet evolving global regulatory requirements with the same rigour applied to financial reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Disclosure drafting: Serve as the primary drafter of all ISSB-aligned disclosures across multiple jurisdictions, meeting the requirements of IFRS S1 and S2, including the governance, strategy, risk management, and metrics and targets pillars.
- Control environment: Establish and enforce the control environment around disclosures, ensuring documented data lineage, evidence retention, review procedures, and a complete audit trail from source system to published metric.
- External assurance: Coordinate with external assurance providers to ensure disclosures meet limited and reasonable assurance readiness standards.
- Process improvement: Drive continuous improvement in reporting processes, including automation requirements for the sustainability technology team, to increase efficiency and reduce control risk across reporting cycles.
- Performance analysis: Analyze sustainability performance against key goals and draft performance narratives in partnership with the Finance, Accounting, Environment, and Social Impact teams.
- Jurisdictional monitoring: Monitor jurisdictional developments and engage with Amazon's public policy team and national regulators.
Team and stakeholders
You will work cross-functionally with Worldwide Sustainability, partner teams, legal, finance, and accounting, and present results to senior leadership. You will also coordinate with external assurance providers, the sustainability technology team, and Amazon's public policy team and national regulators.
Requirements:
Basic qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or above in accounting or a related field.
- Experience with regulatory filings and reports or equivalent.
- ACA, CPA, or an equivalent financial qualification.
- Extensive experience delivering regulatory sustainability reports or external financial statements, including ownership of data collection through to publication.
- Experience directly performing independent third-party assurance or managing external audit firms.
Preferred qualifications:
- Strong project management skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Sustainability reporting accreditation or certification (for example GRI Certified Sustainability Professional, ISSB (IFRS) Sustainability Fundamentals Certificate).
- Deep understanding of IFRS S1 and S2, including all four content pillars and connectivity to general purpose financial reports.
- Experience designing and operating reporting controls, governance frameworks, and evidence retention standards at a level equivalent to financial reporting rigour.
- Experience with external reporting solutions such as Workiva and familiarity with XBRL tagging.
- Experience simplifying processes and creating detailed technical requirements for automation.
- Ability to understand complex data and create new disclosures in line with specific criteria.
- Ability to create and execute a sustainability disclosure strategy that prioritizes the needs of various stakeholders.
- Ability to deliver in ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment.
