Position summary


GSK is seeking a Site Sustainability Lead to drive the cross-functional activities required for the Barnard Castle site to deliver its overall sustainability goals in support of the company's sustainability targets. The role manages the overall site sustainability plan, coordinating the various cross-functional workstreams and coaching workstream leads to identify and mitigate risks, and serves as the site's single point of accountability for sustainability activities.

This role turns GSK's company-wide sustainability targets into delivery on the ground at a major manufacturing site. By programme-managing workstreams, running governance, managing change readiness, and connecting the site with central teams, the Site Sustainability Lead ensures sustainability activities are properly resourced, planned, and executed, keeping the site on track against its goals.


Key responsibilities


  • Site plan ownership: Manage the overall site sustainability plan, coordinating cross-functional workstreams and coaching and supporting workstream leads to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Single point of accountability: Act as the site single point of accountability for sustainability, ensuring activities are resourced, planned, and executed to deliver the goals and targets, escalating issues and risks through appropriate governance.
  • Communication and stakeholders: Manage the communication and stakeholder management plan to ensure compelling, consistent, and timely messaging, and create clear messaging for wider audiences.
  • Programme management: Programme-manage activities across the site, ensuring clear delivery plans are in place and executed, and hold regular governance meetings with workstream and PMO leads to keep milestones and risks visible.
  • Change readiness: Own change readiness assessments to ensure the business change plan is comprehensive and aligned to site targets, addressing impacts of change prior to deployment.
  • Change methodology: Apply GPS or ADP principles and/or the Business Change Management toolkit throughout the programme, building the change capability of the site project team.
  • Central liaison: Liaise with central teams and functions to understand organisational plans and targets, communicate the Barnard Castle site's plans and progress, and leverage support as required.


Team and stakeholders


The role coordinates cross-functional workstream leads (including PMO leads) across the Barnard Castle site, runs governance and performance management forums, and liaises with GSK's central teams and functions.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated matrix leadership skills, balancing delivery of tactical and strategic objectives.
  • Strong programme management experience with a proven delivery record.
  • High personal energy and the ability to energise others.
  • Operational experience with knowledge of change management methodology and GPS standards.
  • Ability to work independently in complex, ambiguous situations with high uncertainty.
  • Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence with or without authority across all grade levels.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, able to facilitate diverse audiences and synthesize critical insights from large amounts of information.
  • Ability to map out and scenario-plan the complexities and interdependencies of multiple programmes, working effectively in large, complex cross-functional teams.
  • Preferred: university degree or equivalent.
