Position summary
The Senior Sustainability Compliance Specialist owns sustainability compliance activities across key product lines, ensuring they meet applicable regulatory and certification requirements and enabling uninterrupted trading and market access. The role manages certification and audit processes, ensures data and documentation quality, and partners with commercial and operational teams to enable informed, compliant transactions.

By managing certification frameworks, validating sustainability data, and translating evolving regulation into day-to-day compliance processes, the specialist protects market access, product and financial integrity, and the reliability of downstream reporting.
Key responsibilities
- Compliance ownership: Own sustainability compliance activities across key product lines, ensuring regulatory and certification requirements are met to enable uninterrupted trading and market access.
- Certification and audits: Manage certification and audit processes, including frameworks such as ISCC, REDcert, Better Biomass, and French White Certificates (CEE), coordinating with certification bodies and resolving issues efficiently.
- Data quality: Review and validate sustainability information to support accurate reporting, audits, certifications, and customer requirements.
- Commercial partnering: Partner with Sales and Operations to provide practical compliance advice, assess risks, and enable informed, compliant transactions while minimizing delays and exposure.
- Regulatory application: Monitor and apply national, EU, and international standards, translating them into effective compliance processes.
- Integrity: Safeguard product and financial integrity by reconciling sustainability positions and inventory across platforms and validating transactional data.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate across Finance, Risk, IT, and Legal to improve processes, strengthen controls, and contribute to technology and straight-through-processing initiatives, and build trusted relationships with clients and external stakeholders.
Team and stakeholders
The role works with certification bodies, Sales, Operations, Finance, Risk, IT, and Legal, and with clients and external stakeholders across geographies.
Requirements:
- University degree in business administration, environmental science, engineering, law, or a related field.
- 2 to 4+ years of experience in product, environmental, or sustainability compliance, ideally within biomass, renewable fuels, or renewable gas trading.
- Solid understanding of renewable fuels, gas trading, energy efficiency, or other regulated environmental commodities and their regulatory frameworks.
- Good understanding of accounting principles, calculations, operational processes, and data quality control, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A process and systems mindset with strong data-analysis skills, plus a collaborative, client-oriented approach across functions and geographies.
- A self-starter with strong organization and time management; multi-country compliance, French CEE, French or Spanish, energy trading, product stewardship, or voluntary schemes (Better Biomass, EcoEnergy) an advantage.
