Position summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Sustainability Consultant to play a key role in leading its growing UK building certification team. Working closely with UK and international sustainability specialists who have helped shape global Net Zero Carbon frameworks, you will support business development, strengthen market presence, and promote the firm's sustainability services, while collaborating with multidisciplinary colleagues to design, analyse, model, report, and present sustainability strategies across a diverse project portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Project leadership: Lead and manage the delivery of building certification projects and competitive bids.
• Technical guidance: Provide expert technical guidance on BREEAM, WELL, and other certification schemes.
• Decarbonisation: Support clients in setting decarbonisation targets and defining practical pathways to achieve them, and recommend effective low carbon design measures to clients and designers.
• Delivery support: Assist senior colleagues in successful project delivery and coordinate with clients, project partners, and key stakeholders.
• Advisory: Deliver strategic sustainability advice during early project design stages, produce technical summaries and detailed reports, and analyse large datasets into clear outputs.
• Team development: Mentor junior consultants, support senior team members, and oversee internal quality assurance procedures.
• Client presentation: Present technical findings and project outcomes to clients.

The role works within the UK Sustainability team's Cities & Workplaces group, alongside UK and international sustainability specialists and multidisciplinary colleagues, and engages clients, project partners, and key stakeholders.

Requirements:

• Degree (or equivalent) in engineering, architecture, building services, or a related discipline.
• 5+ years' experience in sustainability consulting within the built environment.
• Licensed BREEAM Assessor, with demonstrable expertise in building certification schemes and deep knowledge of BREEAM, WELL, and other environmental performance standards.
• Strong understanding of building design, construction processes, and material performance, plus a grounding in environmental impact assessment and environmental science.
• Proven experience delivering certification projects and leading or mentoring teams, and integrating low carbon and climate-resilient design.
• Demonstrated leadership, excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, and commercial awareness in business development, marketing, and proposal writing.
