Position summary

The Senior Policy and Programme Officer (Green Infrastructure) will manage a portfolio of environmental policy, planning, and project work, with a particular focus on green infrastructure. The role supports initiatives that enhance London's public spaces, improve access to green areas, strengthen biodiversity, and increase resilience to climate change, contributing to the delivery of the Mayor's London Environment Strategy. Working with internal teams, local authorities, government departments, and external partners, you will develop policies, manage projects, build partnerships, secure funding, and provide evidence-based environmental advice.

Key responsibilities

• Policy delivery: Translate Mayoral priorities into delivery through policy development, policy influencing, and direct delivery.
• Funding: Identify opportunities to improve funding and finance for the sector, including commissioning research and developing relationships.
• Project management: Carry out project management and governance to track spend and timelines, report progress, and manage risks and issues.
• Relationships: Manage relationships and contracts with stakeholders, suppliers, and internal teams, and advise on and influence projects delivered by partners and grantees.
• Communications: Provide internal and external communications through briefings, presentations, and social media, and maintain project and stakeholder records.
• EDI: Embed equality, diversity, and inclusion into programme design, communications, and delivery.

Team and stakeholders

You will work within the Green Infrastructure team in the Good Growth directorate, collaborating with internal teams, local authorities, government departments, external partners, suppliers, and grantees.

Key details

• Work arrangement: Hybrid, up to 3 days a week in GLA offices.
• Work authorization: This role does not meet the criteria for sponsorship for external candidates.
• Screening: Successful candidates must undergo a DBS check.

Requirements:

• Experience in green infrastructure policy, with strong professional knowledge across nature recovery, nature finance, trees and woodlands, waterways, and/or partnership working.
• Ability to analyse and interpret environmental issues in urban areas, their causes, effects, and possible solutions.
• Ability to work flexibly across multiple workstreams.
• A track record of successfully managing programmes or projects using effective project management skills and tools.
• A successful track record working with colleagues at all levels and across organisational boundaries, with evidence of leading collaborative teams.
