Position summary
BAM is seeking a Senior Environmental Sustainability Advisor to join its Environmental Sustainability team, supporting energy-sector projects across Scotland and the North of England. The role drives environmental sustainability excellence across BAM Infrastructure by championing the application of the company's environmental management systems (EMS) and best practice, particularly around low carbon construction, biodiversity, zero waste, and pollution management, and provides a point of contact for advice and guidance on applying the EMS to designated projects.

This role embeds environmental best practice into the delivery of major energy infrastructure projects. By applying the EMS, investigating incidents, developing training, and building relationships with regulators and supply chain specialists, the advisor drives continued improvement in environmental performance across BAM's energy-sector work in Scotland and the North of England.
Key responsibilities
- Documentation: Prepare project-specific environmental documentation and records.
- EMS delivery: Support the implementation and delivery of project-level EMS and customer requirements.
- Incidents: Investigate environmental incidents and advise on appropriate actions.
- Training: Contribute to the development and delivery of internal environmental sustainability training.
- Stakeholder relationships: Develop relationships with stakeholders, regulators, and supply chain specialists, and attend project progress meetings, forums, and workshops, providing input, guidance, and reporting on environmental issues.
- Best practice: Identify and communicate best practice and promote continued improvement, including feedback on environmental performance.
Team and stakeholders
The role reports to the Environmental Sustainability Business Partner for Energy Networks, is predominantly project-based across sites in Scotland and the North of England, and engages stakeholders, regulators, and supply chain specialists.

- Base: Office base at BAM's Kilsyth (Scotland) or Newcastle office, with predominantly project-based work across Scotland and the North of England.

Requirements:
- Good understanding of environmental legislation, the UK regulatory framework, and the ISO 14001 standard.
- Technical qualification in Environmental Management with a minimum of 5 years' experience in an environmental role (preferably construction).
- Associate-level or above member of ISEP or similar, working towards Full Member and/or Chartered Environmentalist.
- Experience training, coaching, and mentoring environment staff and other key roles.
- Articulate and engaging communication skills.
- Desirable: knowledge of low carbon construction and ecology management (ideally civil engineering), industry forum involvement, experience of co-located and remote teamworking, and IT proficiency.
