Job Title: Senior Environmental Management and Services Specialist

Develop, review and update the Environmental Management System (EMS) and other environmental services (waste management & marine) to ensure Nawah compliance with environmental regulations & requirements and identify gaps in compliance to improve performance. Review the Operational Environmental Management Plan (OEMP) and related environmental procedures to ensure completeness and compliance with environmental regulations and requirements. Assist in the preparation of sustainability documentation and reports to ensure compliance with corporate requirements


Key Activities, Responsibility & Accountability


Activity:


Environmental Programs Management


Responsibilities And Accountabilities:


  • Review and assist in the implementation of the folder structure on EMS based on the plan and maintain environmental management documentation, including environmental procedures, processes and programs, within Nawah's Integrated Management System (NIMS) to ensure EMS and NIMS are aligned and in compliance with environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Develop and implement environmental programs including Environmental Management System (EMS), Compensatory Management Program (CMP), Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP), air, water, storm water, endangered species, fish counting, etc.to align with program requirements.
  • Implement the environmental services related, but not limited to, waste management and marine services.
  • Develop and implement the sustainability strategy & plan.


Operational Environmental Management Plan (OEMP) & Permitting


Responsibilities And Accountabilities:


  • Review elements of the OEMP and site practices to determine level of completeness and compliance with external standards as assigned.
  • Conduct permit application reviews to ensure permit accommodates operational and Nawah objectives.
  • Review, monitor, track application content and permitting milestones, and gather information to support permit application.


Operational Preparedness Support


Responsibilities And Accountabilities:


  • Evaluate & assess policies, procedures, operating practices, equipment specifications, designs, regulatory changes and internal business strategies for environmental requirements and provide advice to other functions across Nawah and ENEC.
  • Coordinate with ENEC to identify, monitor and track environmental design features within the prime contract to completion.
  • Provide information to Licensing, Engineering and ENEC Health Safety and Environment (HSE) as needed.
  • Review and assist in the development and maintenance of procedures describing activities and processes for completion of the Environmental Compliance group function.
  • Identify operating procedures, equipment types, designs, systems and testing in the prime contract that are important to the environmental function and ensure delivery.


Sustainability


Responsibilities And Accountabilities:


  • Provide support of Corporate HSE activities for preparation of annual ENEC Sustainability Report per Corporate HSE schedule to ensure applicable input is provided in a timely manner.
  • Provide input to preparation of documentation to support ENEC requirements under International Finance Corporation (IFC) ESAP performance standards to ensure lender requirements are satisfied.


Solid and Hazardous Waste Management


Responsibilities And Accountabilities:


  • Assist in the procurement of a capable solid and hazardous waste contractor to ensure alignment with policies, regulations, and requirements.
  • Manage the waste contractor on day-to-day basis to ensure efficient utilization and diligent implementation of their contract.
  • Provide administrative services associated with the solid and hazardous waste contract to ensure alignment with performance and safety parameters.


Responsibilities & Accountabilities (contd.)


Verify all facilities and equipment available at the plant meet the requirements for safe and effective solid and hazardous waste control to ensure compliance.Facilities and equipment include but are not limited to:


­ Solid and hazardous waste handling facilities for Units 1 to 4.


­ Skips, bins and other containers provided by the waste contractor or procured by Nawah.


­ All transportation and handling equipment used throughout the waste life cycle


Marine Services


Responsibilities And Accountabilities:


  • Manage and review studies and plans to model and evaluate UHS performance to assist in the development of the UHS system and to ensure the safe and reliable supply of cooling water to the plant.
  • Develop and implement a UHS protection strategy and response plan to oversee the training, assessments, exercises, and drills required to maintain an effective response to any threats to the UHS system.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of documents in relation to UHS protection, environmental monitoring and other relevant areas to ensure alignment with environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Liaise with Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) and Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) to resolve marine wildlife trappings and incidental captures.
  • Manage the marine contractor on day to day basis to ensure efficient utilization and diligent implementation of their contract.
  • Compile data to produce periodic environmental performance report to document and disseminate information to section and division leadership, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.


Environmental Compliance Assurance


Responsibilities And Accountabilities:


  • Develop and maintain methodologies to identify and track regulatory requirements, commitments and other obligations to completion including studies, plans, monitoring, sampling, analysis and result evaluation to ensure compliance with regulations and requirements.
  • Develop and maintain assessment and audit systems to identify gaps in compliance with Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) or other requirements, commitments, and obligations.
  • Prepare and implement an environmental management plan for the Nawah Emergency Response Centre to ensure the facility meets all environmental standards.


Planning, Project Management and Coordination


Responsibilities And Accountabilities


Lead or assist with project initiatives as necessary and with coordination of resources to complete actions and deliverables necessary for permitting or other projects.


The incumbent is expected to perform standard activities as per attachments 4 & 5 in the Job Description procedure (relating to Health, Safety and Environment, Security and Business Continuity, People Management, Excellence and Quality Management

Qualifications


Minimum


Bachelor's Degree Engineering or Science.

5 years of relevant experience.


Or equivalent as stated in the Job Description Procedure (HR-PRC-0004).


Preferred


Postgraduate degree in an environmental field.

Experience in either UAE environmental permitting or nuclear power plant environmental operations.
