Position summary
This role supports the contract Environmental and Sustainability (E&S) functions, providing and driving E&S solutions and enabling the contract and operational teams to implement the SHE and Sustainability management systems on Costain's Heathrow framework. You will build and maintain relationships with all stakeholders while providing an independent, objective view of E&S performance on the contract, working closely and collaboratively with the Health and Safety function, together known as the SHE Team.

By implementing the E&S management system, running sustainability workshops, and providing independent assurance of E&S performance, you help the contract meet its environmental commitments across the project lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- On-site support: Provide on-site support and run sustainability workshops with stakeholders to deliver sustainable outcomes.
- Stakeholder liaison: Liaise with the client, supply chain, and contract teams to achieve E&S outcomes, and implement the E&S management system across the framework.
- Pre-mobilisation: Support pre-mobilisation, ensuring necessary environmental assessments and risk reduction have been undertaken.
- Leadership support: Support and influence the Contract Leadership Team, clients, and stakeholders in compliance with the Group SHE Management System and contract environmental performance.
- Training and coaching: Deliver training and coach operational and supply chain contractors in delivering contract environmental requirements, and support ongoing assessment of supply chain contractors.
- Assurance and data: Support the Contract Environmental Assurance programme, investigate unplanned events and close out findings, and support timely reporting and analysis of environmental data to inform improvement plans.
Team and stakeholders
You will work within the combined SHE Team alongside the Health and Safety function, and with the Contract Leadership Team, clients, supply chain contractors, and operational teams.
Requirements:
- Essential: environmental-related experience; an Environmental Degree or equivalent; and PIEMA or equivalent (working towards MIEMA/CEnv).
- Desirable: significant relevant environmental experience in a relevant industry, over 5 years of such experience, and MIEMA CEnv or equivalent.
