Job Description
Position summary
AXA XL is seeking a Senior Energy Transition Risk Consultant to provide technical risk assessment and advisory services for renewable energy assets and emerging energy technologies. The role supports underwriting decisions, client risk management, and the development of AXA XL's global Energy Transition strategy, with a focus on wind energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar PV, and associated electrical infrastructure.
Why this role matters
The expansion of renewable energy and low-carbon technologies introduces new engineering, operational, and insurance risks. AXA XL's Energy Transition proposition helps businesses manage these risks through specialist engineering assessments, insurance solutions, and loss prevention guidance. This role strengthens technical risk expertise across energy transition projects while supporting clients investing in decarbonisation technologies.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct technical risk assessments of renewable energy assets, including onshore and offshore wind farms, solar PV, BESS, subsea cables, and associated electrical infrastructure.
- Support underwriting decisions by translating engineering findings into risk considerations for pricing, coverage evaluation, risk selection, and loss prevention.
- Advise clients and brokers on energy transition risks, providing practical recommendations to improve asset reliability and risk management.
- Contribute to risk reviews through desktop assessments, virtual engagements, site visits, technical discussions, and collaboration with claims teams.
- Support energy transition strategy by sharing insights on emerging technologies, industry developments, and technical risks with global engineering and underwriting teams.
Team and stakeholders
The role reports to the Risk Consulting Energy Transition Leader, with a dotted reporting line to the Country Manager. It works closely with the Global Head of Energy Transition, energy engineers, underwriters, claims specialists, brokers, and energy industry clients across AXA XL's international operations.
Key details
This is a full-time, permanent position based in London, with flexibility for other locations. The role involves technical and client-facing responsibilities, including travel to project and client sites when required. AXA XL supports flexible working arrangements and offers competitive compensation, wellbeing benefits, and enhanced family-friendly leave policies.
