Position summary

You will lead the LEGO Group's Sustainable Materials Strategy & Standards team, defining how the company transitions to more sustainable materials while balancing environmental impact, technical feasibility, and business needs. This is a role at the intersection of business, sustainability, and strategy, shaping both the strategic direction and the standards that will guide the sustainable materials transition. The role sits within the central Sustainability team, reports directly to the CSO, and is part of the CSO Leadership Team.

By setting the strategy, decision principles, and standards for sustainable materials, you shape both where the company goes and the principles that guide how it gets there.

Key responsibilities

• Strategy: Develop and continuously evolve the Sustainable Materials Strategy, defining ambitions, targets, and pathways across resin and other priority materials including electronics and textiles.
• Decision principles: Establish the strategic direction and decision principles for sustainable materials, balancing environmental impact, technical feasibility, commercial realities, and scalability.
• Standards and policies: Own key materials-related policies, standards, and positions, including feedstocks, recycling technologies, mass balance approaches, chain of custody, certification requirements, and credible sustainability claims.
• Recommendations: Translate emerging scientific, technical, regulatory, and market developments into clear recommendations and actionable choices for senior decision-makers.
• Partnerships: Build external networks and partnerships across industry and value chains to accelerate progress.
• Leadership and alignment: Lead and develop a small high-performing team, drive cross-functional alignment across Sustainability, Operations, Product, Procurement, Commercial, and Government & Public Affairs, and represent the LEGO Group in senior external forums.

Team and stakeholders

You will lead a small team of strategy and materials specialists, report to the CSO and sit on the CSO Leadership Team, and align stakeholders across Sustainability, Operations, Product, Procurement, Commercial, and Government & Public Affairs, plus external industry partners.

Key details

• Work arrangement: Hybrid, averaging 3 days per week in the office.
• Reporting line: Reports directly to the Chief Sustainability Officer.
• Screening: Roles with high engagement with children require Child Safeguarding Background Screening.

Requirements:

• Significant senior leadership experience within sustainability, materials, and strategy, ideally in a global organization.
• Proven expertise in strategy development and execution, balancing sustainability ambition with commercial and operational considerations.
• Strong understanding of sustainable materials, with technical depth to engage credibly on alternative feedstocks, recycling technologies, certification systems, and chain of custody.
• Demonstrated success influencing and aligning stakeholders across functions and levels.
• Experience building external partnerships across industries and value chains.
• Excellent communication skills, able to simplify complex concepts and influence executive audiences, and a track record of leading high-performing specialist teams.
