Position summary
Mott MacDonald's Decarbonisation team is seeking a Senior Carbon Analyst to join its advisory team in the UK, delivering decarbonisation consultancy services across a wide range of projects globally, from infrastructure carbon management to strategy and advisory work. The role spans a mix of long-term and short-term projects nationally and internationally, working closely with the global Mott MacDonald climate change communities.

By leading carbon footprinting, lifecycle assessment, and carbon management projects and advising on net zero strategy, you directly support clients' decarbonisation ambitions and strengthen the firm's climate change capability.
Key responsibilities
- Project leadership: Lead the delivery of carbon footprinting, lifecycle assessment, and carbon management projects, delivering to quality, time, and budget.
- Standards assessment: Assess project performance against national and international standards and industry best practices.
- Design input: Inform project design with regard to operational and embodied carbon.
- Strategic advice: Assist senior staff in providing strategic advice to help clients align policies and processes to achieve net zero ambitions.
- Data analysis: Develop data analysis as part of carbon assessment, ensuring traceability and robust calculations.
- Reporting: Write reports and present final results to clients.
- Professional excellence: Be actively involved in Mott MacDonald's climate change community with a focus on decarbonisation.
- People and capability: Help more junior staff build their carbon skills and capabilities.
- Business development: Support bid submissions and opportunity development in collaboration with Account Leaders and carbon specialists across the Transport, Water, Built Environment, and Energy sectors.
Team and stakeholders
You will join the Decarbonisation team within Mott MacDonald's Advisory and Programme Delivery unit, working closely with the global climate change communities, senior staff, more junior team members, Account Leaders, and carbon specialists, as well as clients across multiple sectors.
Key details
- Contract: Permanent, full-time.
- Work arrangement: Hybrid, under the firm's agile working policy.
- Work authorization: Mott MacDonald is not currently offering Skilled Worker visa sponsorship; applications are welcomed from candidates eligible for alternative UK immigration routes that do not require sponsorship.

Requirements:
Essential:
- A minimum of 7 years of experience delivering carbon footprinting, lifecycle assessment (LCA), and carbon management projects across a range of project types, especially in the infrastructure sector.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate at all levels within the company and across the industry.
- Collaborative behaviours to maximise stakeholder engagement and influence clients and project teams.
- Good knowledge of legislation and policy influencing carbon and climate change, and of key methodologies and data sources for carbon footprinting and management, such as ISO 14064, PAS 2060, and PAS 2080.
- Good knowledge of industry efforts to reduce the carbon impact of energy, transport, construction, and the built environment, with well-rounded knowledge of wider sustainability and climate change issues.
- Capacity for flexible delivery, thinking strategically as well as delivering short-term detail.
- A degree or post-graduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Excellent report writing, client presentation, and numerical/analytical skills, including Excel and other tools.
- Excellent time management, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and in a team.
- Experience of net zero, carbon in construction, environmental impact assessment, and working within EIA teams.
Desirable:
- Understanding of related environmental topics such as air quality and climate change adaptation and resilience.
- Knowledge of low-carbon materials, processes, and innovations in construction and the built environment.
- Knowledge of the circular economy and experience implementing CE interventions.
- Experience with LCA tools such as OneClick, E-Tool, or SimaPro.
