Position summary
Amazon’s Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) team is seeking a Regional Environmental Manager to lead and drive environmental operational excellence across Amazon sites in the New York and New Jersey area. This is an individual-contributor role responsible for executing the environmental strategy and operational tactics, providing technical support for existing operations and future expansion across the region, with future potential to lead a team.

The EAP team protects Amazon’s businesses and supports its customers by proactively mitigating environmental regulatory risks and protecting the environment. This role keeps multi-site operations compliant with air, water, and waste regulation while embedding an environmentally responsible culture and supporting the region’s growth.
Key responsibilities
- Drive continuous improvement by using risk assessments and compliance evaluations to minimize environmental impacts, then communicating and implementing best practices to sustain the gains.
- Manage multi-site compliance with air emissions, storm-water, waste, wastewater, and other environmental laws, regulations, and permits, including Federal, State, and Local reporting (USEPA, EPCRA/SARA, Form R, Tier II, and state-mandated permit reporting).
- Support business partners by developing relationships that help them succeed in environmental compliance, performance, and sustainability initiatives.
- Embed Amazon’s environmental policies through effective execution of Amazon Operational Environmental Procedures, developing new procedures as business and regulatory needs dictate.
- Enable future growth by providing strategic environmental support and regulatory review for business expansion and partnering with operations and support teams on change management.
- Investigate incidents by facilitating root cause analyses for environmental incidents and recommending corrective actions for network-wide implementation.
- Audit and measure performance by conducting risk assessments and audits and analyzing site performance against requirements and policies.
Team and stakeholders
This role reports to the Business Environmental Leader and is supported by the EAP leadership team. It partners closely with operations leadership teams, special projects, and support teams across the region.
Key details
This is an onsite role (five days per week, Monday to Friday) based in the NY/NJ area, with travel to Amazon sites across the region up to 50% of the time. There is future potential to manage a team as the organization scales. The package includes sign-on payments and restricted stock units.
Requirements
Essential
- 6+ years of compliance, audit, or risk management experience.
- 5+ years of program or project management experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications.
Preferred
- Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles or Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements, or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer or equivalent certification.
- Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
