Position summary
AWS Infrastructure Services is hiring a Regional Environmental Engineer to support site development and environmental compliance in the London, UK region. Part of the AWS Environmental team, the role ensures standards and policies support regulatory compliance across data centers and facilities, provides environmental guidance to regional operations teams, and supports new site development including environmental permitting.

Key responsibilities
- Ensure compliance by managing adherence to local and national environmental regulations, contractual obligations, and Amazon policy, and representing Amazon with governmental agencies.
- Drive regional programs by integrating with engineering, construction, and operations teams and maintaining environmental management processes and external accreditation.
- Oversee contractors by ensuring work by contractors, consultants, and employees meets Amazon standards and environmental regulations.
- Analyze metrics by developing and presenting environmental metrics to monitor and forecast performance and scan for risk.
- Report and audit by submitting time-critical regulatory reports and conducting environmental audits and incident investigations with corrective actions.
- Lead permitting by preparing, submitting, and negotiating environmental permit requirements with authorities.
Team and stakeholders
The role sits within the AWS Environmental team, part of AWS Infrastructure Services, working with engineering, construction, and operations teams internally, and government entities, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders externally.

Requirements
Essential
- Master's degree or equivalent.
- Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
- Experience in environmental compliance and permitting, waste management, regulatory and liability assessments, permit evaluations and applications, EIAs, and water discharge requirements.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with experience in environmental reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.
- Ability to handle regulatory deadlines with strong organizational and time management skills, and strong communication in English.
Preferred
- Experience in a data center, critical environment, or facilities management.
- Master's in an environmental field; knowledge of ISO 14001 and waste/circular economy principles.
- Experience with environmental auditing and compliance verification.
- Understanding of climate change regulations and GHG reporting.
