Job Description

Position summary

CETEx is seeking a Policy Analyst (Transition Finance) to work on policy-oriented research projects within its Prudential & Transition Finance team, contributing to a major programme on transition finance and the role of finance, financial markets, and prudential regulation in enabling a credible, well-managed transition to a net-zero, resilient, and sustainable economy. The work centres on how UK banks, investors, and policymakers can support credible transition planning at entity and sectoral level, mobilise capital for the net-zero transition, and manage the associated financial and macroeconomic risks.

Why this role matters

This role produces the research and policy analysis that helps banks, investors, regulators, and policymakers finance the net-zero transition credibly while managing its financial risks. By analysing transition finance and prudential regulation, you support decision-makers in mobilising capital and building resilient financial systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Policy research: Work on policy-oriented research projects within the Prudential & Transition Finance team, contributing to CETEx's transition finance programme.
  • Transition planning: Analyse how UK banks, investors, and policymakers can support credible transition planning at entity and sectoral level.
  • Capital mobilisation and risk: Examine how to mobilise capital for the net-zero transition and manage the associated financial and macroeconomic risks.
  • Communication: Communicate technical issues to non-technical and external audiences, and coordinate the activity of others.

Team and stakeholders

You will work within CETEx's Prudential & Transition Finance team, collaborating with colleagues and supporting policymakers, central banks, finance ministries, and regulators.

Key details

  • Salary: From £43,277 to £51,714 per annum inclusive, with potential to progress to £55,497 (inclusive of London allowance).
  • Contract: Funded for one year, with possibility of extension subject to funding.
  • Work arrangement: Hybrid working, with flexible working requests welcome.
  • Benefits: Occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, and training and development opportunities.
  • Closing date: 8 September 2026 (23:59 UK time).

Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in economics, finance, climate/environmental policy, environmental/ecological economics, or a closely related field.
  • An understanding of transition finance, financial markets, prudential regulation or risk management, and the role of finance in the net-zero transition, in the UK and internationally.
  • Experience conducting qualitative policy-oriented analysis on financial markets, prudential regulation, or environmental policy, in effective collaboration with others and to deadlines.
  • Experience analysing the financial and/or macroeconomic consequences of climate change and/or a green transition, and/or practical experience in financial markets, prudential regulation, and/or risk management (for example within a central bank, financial supervisor or regulator, financial institution, or comparable setting).
  • Strong project management skills, with demonstrable experience coordinating others.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, including communicating technical issues to non-technical and external audiences.
