Job Description

Position summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Consultant or Senior Consultant to join its growing Programme Management, Sustainability & Advisory team, working with clients on decarbonisation, net zero carbon strategy, energy, and sustainability consulting. You will help clients develop and deliver practical pathways to their climate and carbon reduction ambitions, spanning strategic decarbonisation planning, net zero carbon roadmaps, asset and estate-wide carbon reduction programmes, retrofit strategies, whole-life carbon, energy performance improvement, sustainability advisory, and funding support across buildings, estates, infrastructure, and place-based programmes.

Why this role matters

This role helps organisations translate net zero ambitions into deliverable programmes of work. By establishing carbon baselines, identifying carbon reduction opportunities, and developing evidence-based decarbonisation pathways that balance technical, operational, and commercial considerations, the consultant supports clients' transition to a low-carbon future and the growth of the PMSA team.

Key responsibilities

  • Decarbonisation strategy: Work with clients to develop and deliver decarbonisation strategies, net zero carbon roadmaps, and investment programmes across buildings, estates, and portfolios.
  • Carbon baselines: Establish carbon baselines, identify carbon reduction opportunities, and develop practical, evidence-based pathways.
  • Programme delivery: Support heat decarbonisation plans, estate-wide retrofit strategies, energy and carbon management programmes, funding applications, and business cases, analysing energy and asset data to inform recommendations.
  • Advisory outputs: Prepare high-quality technical reports, presentations, and advisory outputs, and facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagement.
  • Client relationships: Build trusted client relationships and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Business development: Contribute to business development, support bids and proposals, and help develop new service offerings.

Team and stakeholders

The role joins the Programme Management, Sustainability & Advisory team (programme managers, PMO professionals, sustainability specialists, advisory consultants, transformation experts, and digital practitioners), working with public and private sector clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Key details

  • Work arrangement: Hybrid working culture with flexible holiday allowances.
  • Security clearance: May require security clearance; the vetting process (via UKSV) may require proof of UK residency of 5 years or longer.

Requirements:

  • Experience delivering decarbonisation, sustainability, or net zero carbon projects within the built environment.
  • A degree in engineering, sustainability, environmental science, building services, or a related discipline is beneficial.
  • Professional qualifications such as CEng, CIBSE, or IEMA are advantageous but not essential.
  • Understanding of standards and frameworks such as PAS 2035, the GHG Protocol, and the UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard is beneficial.
  • A track record of building strong client relationships, delivering successful outcomes, and working collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, able to convey complex technical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders.
