Why this role matters

ERM is the largest global pure-play sustainability consultancy, and sustainability is its business. • Translate commitments into strategy by helping clients turn sustainability goals and regulatory requirements into actionable product, packaging, materials, compliance, and implementation plans.
  • Advise on technical content spanning sustainable product design, materials selection, life-cycle thinking, circularity, packaging optimization, extended producer responsibility, environmental certifications, and emerging product sustainability regulations.
  • Make information decision-useful by converting complex technical, regulatory, and operational detail into clear recommendations, executive-ready reports, presentations, and workshops.
  • Build senior client relationships across sustainability, product development, engineering, supply chain, procurement, operations, regulatory, and legal functions.
  • Grow the business as a seller/doer by identifying opportunities, developing proposals, supporting client presentations, and expanding ERM’s Product Sustainability services.
  • Lead and mentor teams by coordinating multidisciplinary groups across ERM’s technical communities and regions, and coaching junior and mid-level consultants.
  • Advance ERM’s offerings by contributing to methodologies, intellectual capital, and market offerings in product sustainability.

Team and stakeholders

You will join ERM’s Sustainable Products and Supply Chain team in the US, collaborating with specialists across industries and geographies and building trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders across multiple functions.

Key details

This is a full-time, mostly remote role, with proximity to an ERM office preferred but not required. It spans eight US and Canadian locations including Austin, Boston, Philadelphia, Walnut Creek, and Toronto. The position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, chemistry, materials science, biology, business, supply chain, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.

  • Demonstrated success leading complex projects or significant workstreams (scope, schedule, budget, team coordination, quality, and client deliverables).
  • Ability to interpret complex technical and regulatory information and convert it into practical, business-focused recommendations.
  • Strong client-facing, relationship-building, problem-solving, facilitation, report-writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and collaborate with cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams.
  • Commitment to high-quality delivery and experience coaching or mentoring colleagues.

Preferred

  • Advanced degree or relevant professional certification in sustainability, environmental management, engineering, science, business, or project management.
