Position summary
National Grid Electricity Transmission is hiring a Land Sustainability Officer for its Operational Readiness Team, based variable-base with Warwick as the primary location. The role manages a diverse portfolio of Environmental Partnership Agreements (EPAs), Environmental Education Centres (EECs) and Environmental Value initiatives across the company's non-operational land, delivering benefits for biodiversity, nature recovery, environmental education and communities.

This work supports National Grid's Social and Environmental Action Plan (SEAP) and wider objectives, and ensures customer compliance with National Grid's Restoration and Compensation (R&C) principles where customer activities impact non-operational land. It turns environmental partnerships into tangible benefits for nature and local communities.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate the EPA portfolio and associated Environmental Value activities day to day.
- Manage partner reviews by organising quarterly EPA meetings, preparing agendas, capturing minutes and tracking actions.
- Support education centres by coordinating EEC relationships and reporting to agreed timescales.
- Maintain records across programme trackers, action logs, governance records and reporting dashboards.
- Coordinate ecology surveys and monitoring associated with EPA and EEC sites.
- Report environmental value and coordinate the annual EPA conference and partner engagement.
Team and stakeholders
Part of the Operational Readiness Team within Safety, Health, Environment and Resilience (Electricity Transmission), working with EPA partners, Environmental Education Centres, consultants, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
Key details
- Hybrid, variable-base role with Warwick as the primary hub and occasional UK site travel (around once a month).
- Salary £42,781 to £50,000 plus bonus, contributory pension (double-matched to 12%) and flexible benefits.
Requirements
- Suitable qualification or equivalent experience in environment, sustainability, ecology, geography, planning, land management or a related discipline.
- Broad environmental and sustainability knowledge, including biodiversity, natural capital, environmental value, habitat creation and environmental education.
- Strong project and programme management skills, coordinating multiple stakeholders, actions and reporting simultaneously.
- Stakeholder engagement experience with internal and external partners, consultants and suppliers.
- Strong organisational skills managing governance processes, trackers, reports and documentation.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment while staying highly organised.
