Position summary
AECOM's Environmental Services team has a vacancy for a French-speaking Junior Consultant, Soil & Groundwater Remediation, based in the Mons/Bergen region. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic team undertaking a variety of projects for mainly international private-sector clients in Belgium and abroad, involving contaminated soil investigation and remediation, risk assessments, remedial design, and follow-up.
Why this role matters
This role supports the investigation and cleanup of contaminated land and groundwater for AECOM's clients. By overseeing remedial works on site, collecting and interpreting soil and groundwater data, and producing conceptual site models and reports, the junior consultant contributes to environmental remediation projects that protect land and water.
Key responsibilities
- Remediation oversight: Perform environmental oversight of remedial works on site, under a project manager's supervision, and control the remediation contractor's performance against the remedial action plan.
- Field coordination: Coordinate field service subcontractors and supervise ground investigation works if required.
- Sampling and data: Collect soil and groundwater samples/data during assessment and remedial activities, and coordinate with laboratories to secure appropriate analysis on schedule.
- Reporting: Provide daily reporting of works on site, compile and interpret field and analytical data into accurate conceptual site models, and undertake desk studies, site investigations, laboratory procurement, data analysis, and factual and interpretive report writing.
- Health and safety: Ensure health and safety issues are addressed throughout the life of a project, in line with AECOM's safety culture.
Team and stakeholders
The role works within AECOM's Environmental Services team under a project manager, coordinating field subcontractors and laboratories and communicating with mainly international private-sector clients.
Key details
- Work arrangement: Hybrid; occasional travel mainly within Belgium and occasionally the Netherlands or abroad; a valid car driving licence is required.

Requirements:
- Master's or BSc degree in Geology, Geography, Bio Engineering, or another technical, environmental, or chemical field.
- French-speaking with fluent written and verbal English.
- Graduate or approximately 1 to 3 years of experience in a similar role within environmental consultancy.
- Confidence with client communication and customer focus, excellent analytical, report writing, and communication skills, and solid attention to detail.
- Able to work independently and in teams, willing to travel occasionally, and holding a valid car driving licence.
