Position summary
Amey is recruiting a Graduate Climate & Air Quality Consultant to join its Climate & Air Quality team within Amey Consulting's Climate & Place practice, starting September 2027. Working on infrastructure projects for clients such as National Highways and Network Rail, the graduate develops practical skills in climate risk and resilience assessment, carbon management, and air quality, supporting projects that help clients adapt to climate-related risks.

Infrastructure must increasingly be assessed and adapted for climate risk, from extreme weather to air quality and carbon. Building the next generation of consultants who can deliver climate risk assessments and resilience strategies is central to helping Amey's clients understand and manage these risks while meeting their sustainability objectives, in a rapidly growing area of the business.
Key responsibilities
- Support climate risk assessments by identifying client vulnerabilities and exposures to climate-related hazards.
- Apply climate and air quality tools by using projections such as UKCP18, dispersion models such as ADMS, and GIS to evaluate risks.
- Work with climate data by exploring methods of using data within the CEDA Catalogue.
- Develop resilience strategies by contributing to tailored climate resilience action plans aligned with best practice and regulation.
- Support bids by helping prepare proposals that showcase air quality and climate resilience consulting.
- Collaborate on place-making by working with clients and multidisciplinary teams to create places responding to climate, nature, and community needs.
Team and stakeholders
The role sits within the Climate & Air Quality team in Amey Consulting's Climate & Place practice, part of the Energy, Transition & Sustainability business, with mentoring from experienced colleagues and work for clients including National Highways and Network Rail.
Key details
- Based in Cardiff or Birmingham; 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with hybrid and flexible working.
- Starts September 2027; starting salary of £31,000.
- Joining the team during a period of growth, including a large standalone climate risk and adaptation project.
- Benefits include 24 days' leave plus bank holidays, a pension with Amey contributions, and two Community Involvement Days.
Requirements
- A degree (minimum 2:1) in Meteorology, Climatology, Environmental Sciences, Physical Geography, or another relevant subject.
- Strong knowledge of earth systems and climate change.
- Experienced user of Microsoft Excel with demonstrable experience working with data.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Team player, self-motivated, and a fast learner.
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks with limited supervision.
