Position summary

BAM UK & Ireland is hiring an Environmental Sustainability Business Partner to support the Transport Sector, reporting to the Environmental Sustainability Director. This leadership-level role connects operational strategy to BAM's UK&I enabling service, driving sustainability across the sector's core strategic function and leading a team of specialists across whole-life carbon, BREEAM, nature and adaptation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the specialist team covering whole-life carbon, BREEAM, nature and adaptation, ensuring capability meets segment and contractual needs.
• Shape the service as a member of the Environmental Sustainability Senior Leadership Team, championing continual improvement.
• Partner with clients by understanding transport-client sustainability needs and ensuring BAM delivers on expectations.
• Lead work winning and tender activities, developing compelling bid collateral with innovative approaches.
• Set and track targets by agreeing environmental sustainability targets with operational leadership and reporting on performance.
• Coordinate industry insight on policy, legislation and trends, and manage team resourcing and capability.

Team and stakeholders

A member of the Environmental Sustainability Senior Leadership Team, leading a dispersed team of specialists and working with Key Client Account leads, operational leadership, cross-functional teams and external transport clients.

Requirements

• Leadership experience within similar private and/or public sector organisations.
• Essential knowledge of transport clients and assets, including transport authorities (TfL), Network Rail and major rail projects (HS2, Crossrail, East West Rail), ideally having worked for or alongside them.
• Strong technical knowledge across environmental sustainability, with emphasis on whole-life carbon, nature and resilience.
• Experience managing multiple dispersed teams, preferably in a matrix organisation, and influencing senior internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to implement and execute strategy and bring colleagues with you.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with proven client partnerships and supply-chain relationships.
• Significant experience in a successful bidding/work-winning environment, with strong influencing and networking capability.
• Strong commercial awareness, organisation and time management, and a genuine passion for sustainability in construction.
