About your role:
As an Environmental & Sustainability Advisor, you will play a key role in supporting the Environmental & Sustainability Manager to deliver Centrica Retail’s environmental and sustainability strategy. This role is focused on driving effective implementation, monitoring performance, and ensuring robust data management and reporting processes.
You’ll work collaboratively with the wider HSE team and business stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, embed best practice across operations, and support continuous improvement. This is a great opportunity to influence positive change by providing practical guidance and helping the business achieve its sustainability ambitions.
Responsibilities of the role:
- Support the delivery of the Environmental & Sustainability strategy and associated action plans, ensuring alignment with the wider HSE strategy
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental management systems, policies, and procedures (aligned to ISO 14001 where applicable)
- Monitor compliance with environmental legislation and internal standards, proactively identifying and escalating risks or gaps
- Collect, validate, and analyse environmental performance data, providing accurate and timely inputs for reporting. (Carbon scope 1,2,3, Waste, Packaging, WEEE, etc)
- Maintain environmental records, registers, and documentation to support audits, accreditations, and regulatory requirements
- Support external reporting and disclosures by coordinating and consolidating data from across the business to include Carbon scope 1,2,3 Packaging, WEEE & Batteries compliance schemes
- Support in the preparation of Carbon Reduction Plans
- Partner with operational and support teams to identify opportunities to reduce environmental impact and enhance sustainability performance
- Contribute to environmental incident investigations, identifying root causes and supporting the implementation of corrective actions
- Support audits, inspections, and assurance activities, including preparing documentation and tracking actions through to completion
- Assist in the development and delivery of environmental training and awareness initiatives
- Stay up to date with relevant legislation and industry best practice, sharing insights with key stakeholders
- Build strong, effective relationships with internal teams and external partners to support delivery of sustainability objectives
Here's what we’re looking for:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Environmental Management, Sustainability, or a related discipline
- Professional qualification (or working towards) such as Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP)
- ISO 14001 auditor/practitioner training (desirable)
- Experience in an environmental or sustainability role within a medium to large organisation
- Strong working knowledge of environmental legislation and compliance requirements
- Experience supporting environmental management systems (e.g. ISO 14001)
- Ability to collect, interpret, and present environmental data and performance metrics effectively
- Experience supporting audits, inspections, or assurance activities
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy
