Position summary
Bechtel, a global engineering, construction, and project management firm, is hiring an Environmental Scientist in Houston to integrate environmental requirements into project planning, permitting, design, construction, commissioning, startup, and operations. Part of Bechtel's Environmental, Safety and Health teams, the role provides technical guidance on environmental mitigation, conducts inspections, and helps ensure project compliance with contract, regulatory, and Bechtel requirements.

Key responsibilities
- Support the environmental program by executing the environmental component of an ESH Program across technical and administrative aspects.
- Implement management plans by assisting the development of Environmental Management Plans, associated procedures, and training programs.
- Integrate requirements by building environmental requirements into planning, design, construction, commissioning, and operations.
- Research and document by interpreting regulatory requirements, researching issues, and preparing reports.
- Support permitting and assessments by assisting with environmental permitting, studies, and risk assessments involving site conditions, natural and cultural resources, and communities.
- Conduct inspections and monitoring by sampling to identify risks, confirm mitigation effectiveness, and assess compliance, and participating in emergency response and incident investigation.
Team and stakeholders
The role sits within Bechtel's EHS teams (environmental scientists, safety specialists, and industrial hygiene scientists) and works with customers, team members, subcontractors, permitting agencies, and other stakeholders.

Requirements
- A bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) in environmental sciences, field biology, or natural resources with 1-2 years of relevant experience, or 5-6 years of relevant work experience.
- Ability to research and comprehend organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent oral and written communication and technical writing skills.
- Analytical skills related to sampling, monitoring, and recordkeeping, with computer skills for data management and reporting.
- Adaptable and able to work outdoors in a field environment under various conditions.
- Knowledge and experience with ISO 14001 Management System standards.
