Position summary

RSK, a global leader in sustainable environmental, engineering, and technical services, is hiring an Environmental Manager to support major development and infrastructure projects across the Midlands. The role suits an environmental professional with strong post-planning and construction-phase experience, working closely with project teams to deliver practical environmental solutions and keep live sites compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Manage construction-phase compliance by ensuring environmental compliance throughout the construction phase of projects.
• Implement planning conditions by ensuring environmental management plans, permits, and consent requirements are effectively applied on site.
• Advise project teams by providing practical environmental guidance to project teams and contractors.
• Monitor performance by tracking environmental performance and identifying opportunities for continual improvement.
• Lead audits and investigations by running environmental audits and inspections and investigating incidents with corrective actions.
• Liaise with stakeholders by engaging regulatory bodies, clients, contractors, and internal technical specialists and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility.

Team and stakeholders

The role works alongside project managers, contractors, planners, and technical specialists, and liaises with regulatory bodies and clients, as part of RSK's multidisciplinary consultancy.

Key details

• Based in the Midlands (Birmingham, Staffordshire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Chesterfield, and surrounding areas), UK.
• Flexible and hybrid working, with travel across the Midlands and access to pool vehicles.
• Salary circa £35,000 to £45,000, with a contributory pension and professional development.

Requirements

• Significant environmental management experience within construction, infrastructure, utilities, energy, or major development projects.
• Strong knowledge of post-planning environmental obligations, planning conditions, and construction-phase compliance.
• Understanding of environmental disciplines such as ecology, archaeology, noise, water management, flood risk, contamination, and pollution prevention.
• Experience working on active construction sites and engaging with contractors and site teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills and a full UK driving licence.
• Desirable: IEMA membership, environmental auditing qualifications, and a CSCS card.
