Position summary
Sulzer is creating a new Environmental & Energy Compliance Manager role to develop and drive a strategic environmental agenda across its UK and Ireland manufacturing and service locations, ensuring compliance excellence while supporting Sulzer's sustainability ambitions. The role manages and continuously improves the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System across UK and Ireland sites and ensures compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory requirements.

By managing the ISO 14001 system, driving audits and compliance, and supporting carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and resource-efficiency projects, the manager ensures compliance excellence and advances Sulzer's sustainability ambitions across multiple manufacturing and service locations.
Key responsibilities
- EMS management: Manage and continuously improve Sulzer's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System across UK and Ireland sites.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory requirements.
- Initiatives: Help shape and deliver environmental and energy initiatives that support Sulzer's sustainability ambitions.
- Audits: Conduct audits, assessments, and compliance reviews across multiple locations.
- Performance monitoring: Monitor environmental and energy performance, identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Efficiency projects: Support carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and resource-efficiency projects.
- Incidents: Investigate environmental incidents and drive corrective actions.
- Partnering: Partner with site teams, operational leaders, and external bodies to embed best practice, and keep the business informed of emerging environmental legislation.

Key details
- Work arrangement: Based primarily at the Leeds facility with travel across Sulzer's UK and Ireland sites; not fully remote, but with a flexible approach including home working where appropriate, a 37-hour week, and a flexi-time scheme.

Requirements:
- Experience in environmental compliance within manufacturing, engineering, or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of UK environmental legislation and management systems.
- Proven experience managing or supporting ISO 14001.
- ISEP membership (or working towards it).
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the confidence to challenge, influence, and drive improvements across multiple sites.
- A proactive mindset and passion for sustainability.
