Position summary

The Environmental Compliance Manager leads and manages the client's ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) across the EMEA and AMS portfolio. As the primary subject matter expert for the client account, the role drives strategic and operational environmental governance, ensures regulatory compliance, and manages sustainability reporting, supporting the client's sustainability objectives through effective engagement with operational teams and stakeholders.

By running the ISO 14001 EMS, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading sustainability reporting, the manager helps the client meet its sustainability objectives and maintain certification while driving continual environmental improvement.

Key responsibilities

• EMS (ISO 14001): Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the EMS across EMEA and AMS, keep documentation and aspects/impacts assessments current, coordinate internal and external ISO 14001 audits and certification, drive closure of audit findings and corrective actions, and conduct the Annual Management Review for EMEA.
• Compliance and governance: Provide environmental compliance guidance to operational teams, monitor obligations across waste, recycling, hazardous materials, pollution prevention, emissions, water, and resource consumption, and ensure incidents and non-conformances are investigated and remediated.
• Sustainability and client reporting: Lead sustainability reporting for the client account across EMEA, collecting, validating, analyzing, and submitting environmental performance data (energy, carbon, waste, recycling, water), monitoring KPIs, and providing annual performance reports.
• Subject matter expertise and leadership: Act as the primary environmental advisor, provide technical guidance on legislation and ISO 14001, represent CBRE in client meetings and audits, deliver environmental training, and influence teams, supply chain partners, and client stakeholders without direct line management authority.
• Decision-making: Exercise independent judgment on environmental risks, compliance obligations, and reporting, recommending improvement initiatives and corrective actions.

Team and stakeholders

The role is the primary environmental advisor for the client account across EMEA, influencing operational and project teams, supply chain partners, and client stakeholders, and representing CBRE in client and audit activities.

Requirements:

• Essential: degree or equivalent in Environmental Management, Sustainability, Environmental Science, or related; IEMA Practitioner Membership (PIEMA) or equivalent; detailed ISO 14001 knowledge; strong understanding of EMEA environmental legislation; experience managing ISO 14001 systems, leading audits, and managing environmental reporting across multiple EMEA stakeholders.
• Strong compliance, sustainability reporting, communication, stakeholder management, and analytical/data skills, with high Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Desirable: IEMA Full Membership (MIEMA), ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, ESG frameworks and carbon accounting knowledge, and facilities management/corporate real estate or financial services client experience.
