Position summary

Amentum, the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) arrangement, is seeking an Environmental Advisor to join its SWMTF team, providing expertise to facilitate and deliver environmental management matters to agreed strategies and timescales. Reporting to the project Environmental Manager, the role provides guidance and support on environmental and waste management to the project team.

Why this role matters

PPP is a 20-year arrangement delivering around £7bn of major projects to create a clean and safe environment for future generations at Sellafield. This role embeds sound environmental and waste management, demonstrates Best Available Techniques, and supports the project’s sustainability and carbon goals across the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Develop plans and strategies by assisting in the development and implementation of environmental and waste management plans and strategies.
• Manage environmental aspects via the project environmental aspects register, and identify and manage environmental risks and opportunities.
• Support the Environment Case including through demonstrating Best Available Techniques within environmental/waste assessments.
• Deliver assessments by producing bespoke environmental assessments and work packages across the project lifecycle.
• Support assurance by assisting the environmental manager with environmental assurance, including developing and delivering audits in relation to design and construction works.
• Report metrics by collaborating with the project construction team and contractors to collate and report environmental metrics.
• Support sustainability goals by completing environmental sustainability assessments and collecting data from project engineers to support lifecycle carbon emissions analysis.

Team and stakeholders

Reporting to the project Environmental Manager within the SWMTF team, the role collaborates closely with the project construction team, relevant contractors, and project engineers, as part of the PPP partnership of four organisations.

Key details

This is a full-time, hybrid role based in Risley, England, within the Sellafield PPP programme, and requires a UK background check/vetting.

Requirements

• A degree in a relevant field such as environmental management, a relevant science, or engineering.
• Membership of a relevant institution or professional body, such as the Institute of Environmental Sciences.
• Proven experience in environmental (including waste) management delivered under a recognised environmental management system.
• Evidence of ongoing training and development to stay updated with the latest environmental policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Evidence of working collaboratively within a project team.
• Proven ability to produce clear and concise technical documents.
• Familiarity with the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
• Experience demonstrating the application of Best Available Techniques in support of Environment Cases.
• Experience embedding sustainability within projects (e.g. via BREEAM or other sustainability assessment methods, or sustainability assessments for business case submissions).
