Position summary
Kier is looking for an Environmental Advisor to join its Thames Water framework team covering major projects in the Thames Valley patch. This site-based role supports up to five projects, working closely with the Framework SHE Team to guide project teams through design and construction stages while ensuring environmental legal compliance and maintaining Kier's commitment to sustainability.

This role embeds environmental compliance and sustainability into the delivery of major water infrastructure improvements. By developing project Environmental Management Systems, running audits and inspections, and facilitating Kier's sustainability framework, the Environmental Advisor helps improve effluent quality across the Thames Water region while keeping projects compliant.
Key responsibilities
- First point of contact: Act as the first point of contact for project and design teams on environmental management matters.
- EMS development: Lead the development of project Environmental Management Systems and ensure compliance with regulatory and client requirements.
- Audits and inspections: Conduct environmental audits and site inspections, and support third-party audits and incident investigations.
- Sustainability delivery: Facilitate the implementation of the Kier Group Sustainability framework and support delivery of sustainability innovations.
- Reporting: Complete reports on activity, inspection findings, incidents, and KPIs, ensuring consistent data collection across sites.
Team and stakeholders
The role works within the Framework SHE Team, supporting project and design teams across the Thames Water framework, and engaging clients and third-party auditors.
Key details
- Location and travel: Based from Gerrards Cross, with travel across major projects sites in the Thames Water patch (Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Surrey, Middlesex); site-based, with some flexibility on hours; a full driving licence is required. No visa sponsorship.
Requirements:
- Experience in environmental management and sustainability within construction projects.
- Practical knowledge of Environmental Management Systems certified to BS EN ISO 14001.
- Experience assessing environmental aspects and impacts, developing mitigation proposals, and implementing environmental management procedures.
- A 14001 Internal Auditor qualification, alongside IEMA accreditation or a commitment to working toward Chartered status.
- A full driving licence, with the flexibility and mobility to support projects across the operating region.
