Position summary
McLaren Automotive is hiring a Decarbonisation Lead in Woking to lead its corporate decarbonisation programme and product life cycle emission reduction initiatives, ensuring current and future compliance and competitiveness. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, the role is McLaren's point of expertise for decarbonisation and Life Cycle Assessment across the business.
Why this role matters
Automotive emissions span both operations and the embedded carbon of vehicles, and regulation and customer expectations are tightening fast. Leading carbon data, reduction action plans, and lifecycle assessment is what keeps McLaren compliant and competitive while cutting emissions across its products and operations.
Key responsibilities
- Collect emissions data by gathering Scope 1, 2, and 3 emission data annually across the business.
- Support reporting internally and externally through the annual sustainability report and mandatory requirements such as SECR.
- Identify CO2 opportunities by finding hotspots and reduction opportunities with innovation, engineering, and sustainability teams.
- Lead reduction plans by working with engineering and procurement to hit vehicle-level and material carbon targets.
- Support lifecycle assessment by collecting and tracking embedded carbon footprint data for vehicle components to support vehicle-level LCAs and benchmarking against competitors.
- Support cross-functional initiatives on circularity, responsible sourcing, and regulations such as CBAM and the EU Deforestation Regulation.
Team and stakeholders
The role reports to McLaren's Sustainability Manager and collaborates with innovation, engineering, procurement, sustainability business partners, and the circularity and responsible sourcing leads.
Key details
- Based in Woking, UK; full-time, 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday; supervisory/professional level.

Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's in Engineering or a related discipline with at least 3 years' sustainability experience in an industrial environment (or a sustainability/environmental degree with 3 years' industrial experience).
- Professional or academic experience of Scope 1, 2, and 3 data collection and evaluation.
- LCA modelling experience with tools such as GaBi or SimaPro, and familiarity with emission factor databases (e.g. EcoInvent).
- Familiarity with LCA and Product Carbon Footprint standards including ISO 14040/44, GHG Protocol, and ISO 14067.
- Confident working with large, complex datasets and database systems.
- Strong communication, prioritisation, and stakeholder relationship-building skills.
